JOB OVERVIEW 
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of a Health Physics Technologist. 
 
Reporting to the Manager, Dosimetry, this role will include the application of health physics, radiation protection, and conventional safety principles in support of operations within a large laboratory environment and a nuclear generating station. All duties are performed in strict accordance with prescribed safety procedures, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices to ensure the protection of personnel, the environment, and the public.
 
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES  

  • Ensure Health, Safety, and Compliance: Uphold personal and team health, safety, and well-being by following all technical procedures, standards, and corporate safety rules; develop and implement technical solutions to operational problems.
  • Lead Laboratory and Field Teams: Act as team leader for laboratory and off-site field operations, coordinating activities and ensuring adherence to assigned duties.
  • Maintain Laboratory Standards: Keep laboratory spaces, equipment, and instruments clearn, well-maintained, and properly stored; safely handle, test, and dispose of all chemicals and samples, including radiochemicals.
  • Support Emergency Operations: Perform laboratory activiites according to emergency response procedures, including working modified schedules to ensure 24-hour laboratory coverage when required.
  • Conduct Field Sampling and Community Engagement: Operate company vehicles to travel to various sites for sampling, and participate in community gardening initiatives for sample production, following all safety protocols.
  • Monitor and Analyze Environmental and Radiological Samples: Operate and maintain environmental and radioactive waste monitoring systems; perform radiological analyses and manage dosimetry systems for internal and external radiation exposure assessments.
  • Develop and Improve Laboratory Systems: Participate in the design, development, and review of new systems, equipment, and procedures; prepare or review radiochemical procedures and configure laboratory instrumentation.
  • Perform Quality Assurance and Record Keeping: Carry out quality control/assurance for dosimetry devices and lab equipment, analyze results, maintain all required records and documentation, and conduct non-routine tests and investigations as needed.

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Minimum Education: High School Diploma, plus 3 years community college in a related field.

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
