  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business, or engineering with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and/or Professional designation (CFA, CPA/CA, or CTP). 
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in Treasury, with experience in a senior executive-level position(s). 
  • 8 years of management experience effectively leading, influencing and motivating a team of treasury and finance resources. Experience advising business stakeholders and a team on treasury management and financial strategies. 
  • Proven experience driving financial performance and demonstrated success leading in a complex, dynamic and demanding environment. 
  • Strong technical treasury knowledge and experience are required, including an in-depth understanding of corporate finance, capital markets, foreign currency/interest rate risk products, insurance/risk management, banking relations, M&A) transactions, cash management, and credit/market risk management. Successfully accessed public capital markets in Canada and/or the United States, including bank and bond markets. 
  • Strong judgment and ability to deal with sensitive issues and engage strategically. A leader who can play a key role in supporting management decision-making in moving the company forward.  
  • Experience in establishing credibility, confidence and earning trust. An engaging and highly collaborative leader with strong negotiation and persuasive presentation skills with proven ability to lead high profile corporate initiatives and innovative financing structures.  
  • Proven ability to manage external stakeholders, including experience in investor relations, government relations and/or banking relationship management. 
  • Ability to represent the organization in a public forum and present in speaking engagements.



  • Proven experience in taking an organization's finance function to 'best in class and developing precedent-setting financing programs and structures. 
  • Previous experience in complex insurance program strategies and renewals.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; experience in building and maintaining productive relationships and partnerships across the business with various stakeholders internally and externally.  
  • Proven drive for results; demonstrates sound judgement with solid business acumen. Proven track record of achieving success and delivering results within all facets of financing programs, including innovative financing structures, while providing valuable input and advice to the finance and leadership team. 
  • Previous experience working in or for a complex organization similar in size and scope to OPG, where experience in building and executing treasury management strategies while providing advice directly to all levels of the organization, including CEO, CFO, Board of Directors, Executive Leadership Team (ELT), and business unit leaders at large across the business.  
  • Strong problem-solving skills, a strong drive and a high level of energy, commitment, and enthusiasm to take on complex and challenging situations. 
  • Experience working in/for/on behalf of a complex organization in industries such as utilities, energy, power, mining, heavy/industrial, infrastructure, manufacturing, telecommunications, or real estate. 




ABOUT THE ROLE: As part of the executive finance team, reporting to the Chief Finance Officer (CFO,) you will play a key leadership role, responsible for managing OPG's capital structure, leadership role in Mergers and Acquisition transactions and as a guardian of corporate liquidity, managing cash resources, insurance risk management, financing, foreign exchange, and interest rate exposures. 


In this role, you will manage key financial counterparty relationships such as credit rating agencies, financial institutions, insurers, financial media, debt investors and industry analysts. You will be responsible for inducing creative and innovative financing and investments that ensure OPG maximizes its profitability and leverages its scale. Optimizes OPG's short-term and long-term capital utilization and funding management to support the business's long-term growth strategy.  


The VP, Treasurer, is an officer of OPG and works as a critical member of the finance team to provide specific financial support and expertise to business unit leadership teams, the CFO, and the Board of Directors in achieving OPG's goals and objectives. 




  • Capital Markets/Debt Management: Provide leadership and direction of treasury and risk management; all aspects of capital markets with emphasis on various debt capital market activities, including management of more than $7 billion in corporate long-term debt, including multi-hydro project financing initiatives totalling more than $2 billion, bank facilities totalling about $2 billion and commercial paper programs of more than $1 billion.  
  • Manage long-and short-term debt and monitor the market for opportunities to minimize interest rate risk. Determine and implement a mixture of fixed-rate versus floating-rate debt. Lead the initiative to develop further financing options. Assess, manage, and mitigate foreign currency and interest rate exposure. Maintain strong relationships with key financial institutions, credit rating agencies and bondholders. Manage bank relationships (Canadian and US) and rating agency relationships (DBRS, S&P, Moody's, Fitch). 


  • Cash Management: Manage cash planning and investment funding for OPG. This includes managing and overseeing cash, including short-term cash investment policy. Develop and maintain ongoing liquidity forecasting. At the same time, evaluating business process and automation opportunities for increased efficiency and/or control. 


  • Insurance Risk Management: Oversight and management of a sophisticated insurance program of multi-billion policy limit consisting of over 125 policies that cover Nuclear and Conventional property, liability, business interruption, and executive risks such as Director & Officers (D&O). Evaluate and place-specific insurance programs for large construction projects, joint ventures, and partnership entities. 


  • Credit and Market Risk Management: Oversee middle office functions for credit and market risk oversight, including energy trading, treasury, fund management and suppliers.       


  • Team Development & People Management: Provide strategic direction and develop and supervise the treasury team. Ensuring strong performance while aligning with OPG's corporate behaviours and values. Continuing to build team engagement and curiosity. Develop a roadmap for treasury functions, including succession planning of talent. 


  • OPG Committee Member: An active member of the OPG Pension committee and several partnership boards. Provide guidance and oversight as an OPG pension committee member and investment committee member overseeing $16 billion in pension assets to enhance risk-adjusted returns within OPG's investment strategy: 


  • Strategic Capital Initiatives, including Mergers and Acquisitions: Manage and optimize OPG's capital structure. Manage a framework to optimize capital allocation in the context of strategic objectives and liquidity constraints. Participate in audit committee discussions to evaluate liquidity strategies and risk mitigation. Leadership role in Mergers and Acquisitions activities.
