JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven leaders to join our Energy Markets team in the role of Senior Manager Energy Markets Operations located in Toronto, Ontario.

 

Reporting to the Director of Commercial Operations, the Senior Manager, Energy Markets Operations ensures day-to-day operational effectiveness for the Energy Markets organization and serves as a central coordination point for core operations, governance, and risk activities supporting participation in external power markets.

 

The role consolidates information, supports decision-making, and maintains operational discipline across budgeting, system access, procedures, staffing documentation, risk reporting, and regulatory coordination, requiring sound judgment, discretion, and confidentiality due to exposure to sensitive commercial, workforce, and financial information.

 

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Support the day-to-day operational administration of the Energy Markets organization, acting as a central coordination point across business, administrative, and compliance-related activities.
  • Maintain and support Energy Markets operational procedures, ensuring documentation is current, accessible, and aligned with internal practices and external market requirements.
  • Facilitate quarterly Energy Markets departmental meetings, including agenda development, coordination of inputs, and follow-up on agreed actions.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for onboarding and offboarding activities within Energy Markets, coordinating system access, documentation, and internal notifications.
  • Review and consolidate monthly Energy Markets budget information, identifying variances and trends, and preparing summary materials for the Director of Commercial Operations and Vice President, Energy Markets.
  • Support budget tracking and reporting activities by collecting inputs from relevant stakeholders and escalating issues or anomalies as required.
  • Coordinate the renewal of Energy Markets–specific software licenses and data services, including engagement with vendors, review of pricing and service terms, and preparation of recommendations for approval.
  • Liaise with Supply Chain, IT sourcing, and internal stakeholders as required to support contract renewals or changes to Energy Markets systems and tools.
  • Support the tracking and communication of IT-related issues impacting Energy Markets systems, escalating risks or delays to appropriate management levels.
  • Coordinate staffing-related documentation and support Energy Markets workforce planning activities by consolidating inputs and preparing materials for management review.
  • Support Enterprise Risk Management activities for Energy Markets by collecting stakeholder inputs, consolidating risk information, and preparing updates to the Energy Markets risk register for management review.
  • Monitor and track external market and regulatory developments relevant to Energy Markets operations, facilitating internal communication to impacted stakeholders as required.
  • Monitor external market/regulatory developments; coordinate internal communications and support responses to regulatory/compliance inquiries.
  • Track and renew required certifications, licences, and access for participation in external power markets.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Mathematics, Economics, Finance, or relevant quantitative or analytical disciplines. CPA, CFA, or MBA would be an asset. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. 
  • 8-10 years of people management experience with facilitative leadership skills.
  • Experience in an energy generation environment with a commercial focus would be an asset.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and the ability to provide guidance. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to prioritize competing demands and work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to provide direction, including providing advice and influencing personnel to others to achieve results.
  • Experience in driving strategic initiatives and implementing change.
