JOB OVERVIEW
As our business grows as part of the energy transition, we are looking to hire strategic and results-driven business development and investment acquisition professionals to join our Business Development and Strategy team in the role of Senior Manager, Strategic Initiatives.
Reporting to the Vice President, Corporate Business Development and Strategy, the Senior Manager is responsible for driving long-term sustainable revenue growth by strategically developing and seeking new business investment and partnership opportunities.
As the Senior Manager, you will also be responsible for:
- Provide assistance on matters related to OPG’s corporate strategy and strategic planning issues;
- Provide leadership and strategic direction while developing and evaluating major corporate capital investments and growth initiatives;
- Identify and manage growth opportunities to ensure OPG achieves its strategic goals, revenues and profitability targets and objectives; and
- Develop and maintain relationships in the energy sector, investment community and with leading innovation hubs to anticipate trends and seek out transformative technology advancements.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Provide strategic business and commercial advice, guidance and support to the Director and VP on business development opportunities related to OPG and its subsidiary companies;
- Take a lead role in the formulation of business cases/investment strategies as well as the identification and origination of potential capital investments and M&A opportunities;
- Perform detailed due diligence related to any potential transactions. Work with and lead multi-disciplinary teams across OPG to ensure required outputs are received in a timely manner;
- Complete risk analysis for business development and acquisitions opportunities; including operational, strategic, financial and labour issue identification (ensuring critical issues are identified, assessed and mitigated);
- Develop, lead and negotiate commercial agreements with outside partners to generate a profitable return to OPG;
- Build and maintain key relationships with external stakeholders prospective partners throughout the business development and deal management lifecycles;
- Perform high-level opportunity assessment in support of quick-turnaround queries from senior leadership and to support communications with shareholders;
- Prepare business case summaries and memoranda for senior management;
- Monitor trends, valuations, and developments in the electricity, energy and financial markets and incorporate changes and updates as appropriate in the models and databases on a timely basis;
- Provide financial modelling and M&A expertise to assist other groups within OPG and perform other duties as required;
- Provide professional leadership; ensure that staff seek out best practices, develop their skills to benefit OPG to meet current needs and for succession planning in the organization; and
- Ensure staff are fully engaged and aligned to business goals and objectives. Promote collaboration and teamwork, instilling expectations of excellence and personal best performance. Provide a safe, healthy and positive working environment.
EDUCATION
- University Degree with a focus in Finance, Business, Economics, Math, Statistics, Engineering or Business Administration, or a relevant study is required;
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA/CA) designation, Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA ) is considered an asset; and
- Master of Business Administration (MBA) or Master of Finance (MFin) is also considered an asset.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are seeking an entrepreneurial-minded, tenacious and curious person who is passionate about building business, innovation and new ideas is critical to the success of this position and who has the following:
- Minimum six years of progressive experience in strategy, corporate business development or investment banking;
- Qualified candidates with more than six years of relevant progressive experience will also be considered as we continue to grow our business;
- Strong strategic and facilitative leadership skills with a minimum of 3 years of management experience is required; demonstrating the ability to effectively lead, influence and motivate a team of high performing business development, investment or financial modelling resources;
- Requires critical thinking, analytical, research and creative problem solving skills. A keen eye for detail. Proven experience performing and coordinating economic analysis, financial modelling and commercial analysis of competitive business opportunities;
- Strong understanding of legal concepts and commercial contracts. Experience and exposure to negotiating large scale commercial contracts and partnership agreements while working with multiple internal and external stakeholders;
- People orientated with strong interpersonal skills, adept at building and maintaining positive, productive and collaborative working relationships and partnerships externally and internally with a wide variety of stakeholders, including the ability to present investment material to senior and executive management;
- Strong sense of urgency and decision-making skills conducive to managing priorities and meeting internal and external timelines;
- Strong problem-solving skills to address and overcome current and future challenges. A strong drive and a high level of energy, commitment and enthusiasm to take on complex and challenging situations in a dynamic organization; and
- Experience and exposure from working in/for energy or infrastructure investments, power generation or utilities is preferred.
