JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for dynamic, strategic, and results-driven professional to join Machine Dynamics & Component Integrity team in Advanced Inspection & Maintenance (AIM) division in the role of Sr. Engineer/ Scientist /Technical Officer located in Etobicoke, Ontario.  


Reporting to the
Section Manager, this position is responsible for providing specialist level technical services and engineering analyses to support OPG operations in Nuclear, Hydro and Thermal Generation business units.

 

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Provide technical evaluations and advice, solve problems and coordinate work as required, in multi-disciplinary teams of engineering and technical specialists, to support of the operation of the power generation facilities.
  • Perform advanced finite element modelling, vibration analyses and assessments, stress and fatigue analyses, fracture mechanics assessments, structural modifications, machinery vibration and dynamic evaluations, and troubleshooting techniques as applied to power equipment.
  • Provide assessments for fitness for service, life expectancy and performance of systems, structures and components through implementing applicable industry codes and standards.
  • Lead projects, develop work plans, supporting, and tracking the execution of projects in compliance with the industry's demanding set of regulations and standards and satisfaction of the client and supervisor.
  • Perform as a technical expert in a designated segment of the assigned technical discipline(s). Provide technical advice to support OPG operation and contribute as required to committees and task forces to conduct studies and work programs for OPG and/or other utilities or industries.
  • Keep abreast of latest developments in the assigned technical discipline, through reference to relevant technical publications and regular interface with research, industrial, and educational bodies.
  • Maintaining written documented processes and procedures to reflect improved operating methods and additions to all supported systems.
  • Collaborate with field/inspection teams for planning and execution of testing.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • University bachelor’s degree in engineering or Applied Science (Mechanical / Civil Discipline). Advanced degree in engineering (Master's or PhD) is an asset.
  • Candidate must be a fully licensed engineer in the province of Ontario, or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario (P.Eng)
  • Must have a minimum of 6-8 years of working experience in finite element modelling.
  • Advanced modeling skills and experience in ANSYS, Ls-Dyna and/or ABAQUS software, and CAD skills in SolidWorks software.
  • Working knowledge and experience in application of industry codes/standards, such as ASME B&PV Section Ill, Section VIII, APl-579, B31.1, APl-579 and CSA N285 are considered an asset.
  • Experience of working in the field through planning and execution of testing is preferred.
  • Experience and ability as a team player to understand and manage the interrelationships of various internal and external groups to facilitate objectives and ensure deliverables satisfy stakeholder requirements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and be comfortable leading meetings and giving presentations.
  • Strong in understanding, executing and following governance and procedures with a questioning and analytical attitude/approach under minimum required supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a flexible hybrid office environment.
  • Knowledge of OPG’s ECC Process (Engineering Change Control) is an asset.
