NEW CAMPUS In 2025: Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is establishing a new corporate headquarters on a campus setting in the Municipality of Clarington located within the Durham Region. All non-station-based staff (including all individuals in this position) will be relocated to the new office in 2025.

 

JOB OVERVIEW 

The OPG Professional Trainee Program is an exciting opportunity designed to prepare you for Project Management and Project Controls roles within OPG’s Enterprise Projects Organization.

 

During this two-year program, you will have the opportunity to explore different work streams and learn alongside experienced Project Leaders and Project Controls Professionals on a rotational basis, twice a year. You will be provided the support, mentorship and community to learn the business from day one.  Upon completion of this two year program, you will move into your permanent role within the business unit you started in.   

 

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES  

  • Work with a multi-disciplined team of project management and project controls professionals to successfully deliver a wide range of projects on time, on budget, safely and with quality.
  • Contribute to the overall objective of achieving an integrated environment dedicated to the safe and reliable operation of OPG’s plants.
  • Assist with developing and executing projects in compliance with the energy industry’s demanding set of regulations and standards using established project management processes.


Project Controls domain:

  • Participate in the development and maintenance of business process integration programs and associated methods and documentation.
  • Participate in the development and coordination of methods, processes and policies which govern how the business process integration and strategic and quality planning programs are conducted.
  • Participate in critical reviews and audits of management and business processes. Participate in the development and promote business improvement plans, achieving active involvement of the line organization. Initiate reviews and reports and evaluate proposals to improve business processes and their integration. Prepare reports and presentations for appropriate line management, identifying priority areas for business process integration and improvement. Attempt to resolve issues which have been identified relative to business process integration and improvement or commitment to the principles involved, referring to supervisor, if necessary, in unusual cases.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of business improvement plans.
  • Participate in the review and assessment of the implementation and effectiveness of the integration and improvement plans.
  • Keep abreast of latest developments and assessment methods in business process analysis and change management fields and maintain communications with appropriate teams, associations and advisory bodies.
  • Participate in discussions, teams and committees involving other divisions, utilities and organizations on matters related to project controls, business process improvement and integration.
  • Coordinate data such as cost and schedule information from various groups and vendor partners through e-mail, Microsoft Teams meetings etc..
  • Consolidate data using computer applications such as Excel.
  • Create roadmaps using computer applications such as Visio.
  • Other Duties as Required.

 

Project Management domain:

  • Assist Supervisor with coordinating and controlling defined stages of project management in accordance with Project Management governance for assigned projects or project packages in various project phases, as circumstances require.
  • Assist with implementing approved Project Management processes for phase-gating, integration, scope, schedule, cost, change control, estimating, communications and reporting, and risk.
  • Support Supervisor in managing the engineering, procurement and construction of assigned projects, ensuring all project objectives and commitments are controlled and delivered within targets of safety, quality, budget and schedule.
  • Support Supervisor in the preparation of Business Case Submissions to senior management, the Executive Office and the Board of Directors, for project approval and the release of funds. Assist in the preparation and coordination of all information pertinent to an assigned project and alternatives to be considered for input into planning.
  • Resolve and assist with the resolution of issues and problems, as necessary to ensure that project deliverables are achieved as per plan, and that any changes to scope, schedule and cost are managed and approved in line with process and procedure.
  • Support maintaining the awareness of, and keep assigned project parties informed of latest construction, budgeting, estimating and scheduling practices and other corporate procedures. Support the review and maintain awareness of all Corporate and local procedures pertinent to project control and administration. Maintain process compliance during project execution and advise supervisor if compliance cannot be achieved.
  • Maintain an awareness of technological advancements in project management, engineering and construction. Review technical publications and other literature. Communicate with project management counterparts internally and externally to discuss views on improved processes, designs, products, methods and techniques.
  • Other Duties as Required.

 

 

EDUCATION 

  • Graduated anytime between 2021 up to and including Spring 2023 from a 4-year university degree in Engineering, Science, Business or equivalent
  • 70% cGPA (B-) or higher

Preference may be given to candidates who have the following skills and qualifications:

  • Superior analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to learn, take initiative and trouble-shoot
  • Excellent verbal, written and inter-personal communication skills
  • Project management experience or knowledge through education
  • Organizational and leadership skills
  • Ability to work well both independently and in a team environment
