JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Portfolio Manager, Public Markets.

 

Reporting to the Managing Director, Public Markets, the Manager, Public Markets will assist the MD of Public Markets for oversight and managing of $36 Billion dollars in public equity and fixed income strategies. Accountable for a portion of the active external public markets strategies and who will participate in researching, evaluating, and reporting on investment performance and managing the overall relationships with external partners. Ideally, we are seeking an investment professional who poses quantitative investment management experience, external manager research and a fundamental equity background.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Contribute to the definition, planning and implementation of public markets strategies.
  • Research, analyze, and recommend investment opportunities and investment strategies in public markets.
  • Participate in quarterly performance, operational and competitive analysis reviews.
  • Participate in external manager research and be accountable for a portion of the public equity and credit portfolio.
  • Support the team’s efforts in researching and recommending investment opportunities, and providing day-to-day direction, guidance and mentoring to other team members.
  • Participates in industry conferences.
  • Potentially, the scope of the role may evolve to include direct investing within public markets and may require meeting with the management of publicly traded companies and visits of their operations.
  • Engage with external managers and publicly traded companies on ESG and carbon intensity.
  • Understand portfolio construction and risk management and the importance of creating well balanced portfolios.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Undergraduate degree required, MBA or other advanced degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
  • 7 years of relevant public markets industry experience, ideally in the “buy-side” or with an asset manager with either external manager research experience or fundamental equity experience.
  • Proven ability to evaluate the performance of investment managers, ideally including experience conducting manager searches.
  • Strong written, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills required to exchange complex information and to present information, as well to build key working relationships.
  • Experience in using Bloomberg, BarraOne, NEXEN, and possess a strong accounting background.
  • Advanced knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications required.
  • Understanding of risk management principles and practices.
