Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for an analytical and results driven leader to join our team in the role of Manager, Internal Audit with a focus on supporting corporate client groups with Financial and Operational Audits, for our Downtown Toronto location. 

The role of Manager, Internal Audit offers a unique opportunity to gain exposure, experience many key facets of OPG, and provide well-rounded insight into the operational aspects of our organization, as well as exposure to OPG's risk management and control frameworks and practices.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Internal Audit, the Manager, Internal Audit is responsible for the planning and delivering of audit services throughout all of OPG's major business units.  The position requires the successful candidates to both lead and participate in teams of multi-disciplinary audit professionals in order to deliver internal audit services to our clients.

  • Work with business process owners of an assigned major business unit to identify business unit objectives and key risks and perform risk assessments; 
  • Develop risk-based audit programs to meet the needs of the Board and senior management, considering corporate business objectives, strategies and risks facing the Company;
  • Lead the planning and execution of the audit program, including the assessment of audit observations, as well as obtaining management responses and commitment to planned action plans together with management;
  • Participate in discussions with client management at all levels at audit review meetings;
  • Provide quality team leadership for audit engagements, and special projects as assigned, and being accountable for ensuring that methods and results adhere to audit standards;
  • Report audit conclusions, recommended improvements, management actions and follow-up status to Business Unit Leaders, Corporate Function Leaders, the Executive and the Audit & Risk Committee as appropriate;
  • Monitor status and resolution of management actions in response to identified control gaps; 
  • Play a key role in the development and implementation of Internal Audit’s data analytics program; and
  • As required, conduct Preliminary Reviews and participate in Formal Investigations, in consultation with Law, Security and Labour Relations, of alleged violations of OPG's Code of Business Conduct, including those raised through OPG's process for treating complaints related to accounting controls or audit matters.


  • University Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Engineering or equivalent is required; and
  • Professional Accounting Designation (CPA, CA/CMA/CGA) and/or Internal Audit Designations (CIA or CISA) would be an asset.



We are seeking a dynamic, season internal audit professional who has the ability to utilize their experience to assess our internal clients as well as use their data analytical experience to look critically at processes and audit outcomes.  In addition, we are seeking the following:   

  • Minimum of 5+ years of relevant post qualification professional auditing experience is required to demonstrate understanding of the IIA Standards and the practice of Internal Auditing.  Previous experience working for a large to mid-size audit / accounting firm would be an asset;
  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience managing teams. Aptitude for Leadership, experience effectively leading, influencing and motivating a team of internal audit resources and/or department is required; 
  • Previous experience in capital project, construction or supply chain would be an asset;
  • Experience and exposure from working in/for highly regulated industries such as utilities, energy (Hydro / Nuclear), power, mining, or public sector is preferred;
  • Excellent knowledge of audit methodologies, risk management practices and use of control frameworks (e.g. COSO, COBIT) to develop risk based audit programs;
  • Risk-based Internal Audit industry experience (capital intensive industry is considered highly advantageous) with a focus on auditing financial and operational processes;
  • Experience with SOX or NI 52-109 compliance program management and execution;
  • Proficient with the use of information technology tools, an understanding of information technology environments, development of automated test programs and extensive use of data analytics  or visualization software (e.g. ACL, PowerBI, Tableau);
  • Sound critical thinking, analytical and creative problem solving abilities;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, knowledge and experience in building, shaping and maintaining productive relationships and strong partnerships across business units and among a wide variety of internal stakeholders and executives across the organization; highly collaborative and effective team player;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to influence and communicate effectively across the company and externally at all levels;
  • Sense of urgency and decision making skills conducive to managing priorities and meeting internal and external timelines;
  • Ability to quickly understand business processes and their risk implications, analyze complex situations to reach appropriate conclusions;
  • Ability to navigate organization and support systems to deliver results;  
  • A results-oriented focus is essential, as is the ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment and effectively manage several projects simultaneously;
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook);
  • Candidates should be high performers in their current organization.  Looking for someone with a strong level of confidence who is energetic and a self-motivated individual that takes initiative and has a strong level of passion and desire to succeed;
  • Proven track record on delivering results, a passion to learn and desire to support the business in meeting its goals and strategic objectives; and
  • Travel to various OPG sites across Ontario is required for this position, must possess a valid driver's license.
