OPG is looking for a dynamic, consultative, and results-driven compensation professional to join our team in the role of Manager, Compensation as part of our Compensation & Benefits team.  


Reporting to the Senior Manager Compensation, the Manager, Compensation will be an individual contributor, supporting all compensation programs and policies across OPG; providing functional advice, guidance, delivery, and execution as a compensation and job evaluation subject matter expert.  


You will be responsible for providing compensation and related job evaluation advice and programs to OPG’s Management and Executive Leadership teams, HR Business Partner, and Line Managers, ensuring consistency, integrity, and equity with a focus on continuous improvements ensuring compliance with regulatory, legal, and collective agreement requirements.

  • Manage the execution of short term and long term incentive plans. Monitor, measure, and report on programs, including support for reporting to the Board of Directors and external stakeholders; 
  • Support in the review and design of OPG’s compensation programs and program delivery, assisting in the assessment and implementation of changes associated with compensation and job evaluation.   This includes periodically assessing the effectiveness of relevant policies, guidelines and procedures, and ensuring compliance with legal requirements and adherence to collective agreement terms;
  • Act as the key contact in matters related to compensation.  Provide functional advice and guidance on policies and procedures.  Responsible for monitoring and ensuring policies are complied with across all levels of the company;
  • Support the administration and execution of OPG’s compensation programs (external market survey participation, market analysis, base salary increase recommendations, and annual incentive awards programs). Act as a point of contact for external consultants and survey companies requesting information on OPG’s compensation policies and practices; 
  • Act as resource related to job evaluation, keeping informed of job evaluation programs, structure, assessments, tools and processes as appropriate;
  • Provide analysis and statistical information used in reports for executives and the Board of Directors. Monitor and provide reports on compliance with existing compensation programs. Provide ad hoc reporting and analysis related to compensation;  
  • Support established compensation policies, practices, and procedures, providing support for the review and advice regarding compensation requests;
  • Oversee the administration, and maintenance and act as a subject matter expert for the compensation and job evaluation IT systems. Provide technical support for application assistance and provide problem resolution services. Participate in the maintenance of OPG’s HRIS system ‘SAP SuccessFactors’, and as program owner for the ‘Compensation and Variable Pay Module’, and any other third party compensation systems and tools.  This includes making system change recommendations, writing business cases, system specification,s and user acceptance testing to align with program changes.  Assist with the communication and coordination of system changes;
  • Contribute to the delivery of key messages, communications, and educational material related to compensation programs and processes. Prepare, arrange and contribute to the delivery of workshops and training information for HR Business Partners and other staff as needed;
  • Provide support to Senior Manager Compensation, Labour Relations, and HR Business Partners in areas of; job challenges, grievances, and arbitrations. Analyze contentious issues, prepare evidence and compile material for use in grievance proceedings and arbitration cases;
  • Initiate, develop and maintain compensation documentation. Ensure documents are available and up-to-date and are posted on OPG’s intranet, SharePoint, and Shared Directories, as appropriate;  
  • Provide bargaining support to Labour Relations and external consultants on various compensation-related programs;
  • Support job evaluations for OPG unionized represented jobs including new and revised job documents. Liaison with external third party vendor for management of job reviews. Compile and coordinate job reviews for submission, provide clarity and further information;
  • Respond to audit requests;
  • Keep abreast of new developments in compensation trends and issues and related pay related systems and legislation affecting the function; and
  • Actively participate in meetings, task teams, external meetings, and/or committees to ensure functional department requirements are met and input is provided.




  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business, Finance or Accounting or related field is required; and 
  • Working towards and or completed professional certification is preferred.

We are seeking a motivated and results-focused compensation professional who has the following:


  • Minimum 2-5 years of progressive experience related to compensation;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to prepare effective documentation, reports to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels;
  • Strong presentation skills to support the delivery of information and training related to compensation programs;  
  • High level of proficiency with the use of technology tools such as MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook) including advanced knowledge and experience working with MS Excel;  
  • Comprehensive understanding of effective, current, and emerging practices, issues, insights, tactics, trends in compensation;
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical, research, and creative problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail;
  • Previous experience and working knowledge of HRIS/ compensation systems. Previous experience working with SAP ‘SuccessFactors’ the ‘Compensation and Variable Pay Module’ is preferred;   
  • Strong interpersonal skills, knowledge, and experience in building, shaping, and maintaining productive relationships and strong partnerships across business units and among a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders; highly collaborative and effective team player;
  • Ability to quickly understand business processes, corporate projects, and strategic initiatives; and the ability to effectively analyze these complex situations to reach appropriate conclusions and recommendations;
  • Strong sense of urgency and decision-making skills conducive to managing priorities and meeting internal and external timelines;  
  • A results-oriented focus is essential, as is the ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment and effectively manage several projects simultaneously;
  • Experience working for a public sector and/or unionized organization is an asset; and
  • Experience and familiarity with job evaluation system(s), experience with the ‘Hay Job Evaluation Method’ is an asset.
