JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a results-driven team player to join our organization in the role of Finance Analyst based in downtown Toronto at 700 University Ave.

 

Reporting to the Manager of Financial Planning and Analysis, the Finance Analyst will be responsible for supporting a wide array of activities surrounding the corporate business planning process that involve all areas of the organization. Additionally, the role will involve monthly budget-to-actual and forecast reporting including variance analytics for the consolidated financials.  The successful candidate will be tasked with assisting in budgetary analysis, financial reporting, forecasting, maintaining critical information in OPG finance systems and databases, modelling and preparation of reporting for senior level executives and provincial ministries and boards.  The Finance Analyst will also undertake economic and financial analysis or studies to assist in the preparation and analysis of various business cases and scenarios that occur on an ad-hoc basis.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES  

  • Provide advice and guidance to operational clients regarding financial matters.
  • Develop and apply financial models and tools to assist in project developments and assessment of corporate and business unit strategic initiatives and overall financial management.
  • Assist in the development of strategic financial objectives, and associated performance measures, benchmarks and targets.
  • Co-ordinate the development of the budget/business plan submission from various business units within the organization
  • Give advice and guidance on interpretation concerning budget instructions and submission including establishment of guidelines and provide direct assistance as required.
  • Develop Financial Models appropriate to the task at hand.  Prepare effective analytical reports as required.  Communicate these to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Assist in preparing and making presentations to the government, other agencies or investment banks as required.

 
EDUCATION

  • University Degree with emphasis on Business, Finance or, Accounting; where an accounting designation is an asset.  
  • CPA Designation or pursuit of CPA designation is considered an asset

 
QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting and finance experience; familiar with financial analysis, controllership, reporting, excel modelling and financial systems
  • Experience forecasting, and providing budget to actual variance analytics is considered and asset
  • Experience in developing budgets and business plans is preferred
  • Deep experience and applied knowledge of management and financial accounting principals, economics and financial analytical techniques to assess the financial impacts of strategies, standards and expenditure proposals, is preferred;
  • Prior hands-on experience in consultative role that providing effective financial guidance to the business and department managers, is an asset;
  • Strong sense of urgency and decision making skills conducive to managing priorities and meeting internal and external timelines;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to influence and communicate effectively across the company and externally at all levels;
  • A results-oriented focus is essential, as is the ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment and effectively manage several projects simultaneously;
  • Ability to navigate organization and support systems to deliver results; 
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional environment;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, experience in maintaining productive relationships;  
  • Excellent leadership and management skills.  Sound judgment and decision making, critical thinking and creative problem solving abilities;
  • Highly advanced knowledge and experience working with MS Excel required.  Expertise with functions of; Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, Macros; and integration within Power BI are a must.
  • High level of proficiency with the use of technology tools such as MS Office (Word, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook);
  • Experience using large financial and integrated enterprise systems, particularly knowledge of SAP and BPC is preferred
  • Experience and exposure from working in power generation, utilities, mining, construction, engineering, real estate or public sector industry is preferred.

The new campus will include the existing Darlington Energy Complex located just south of Highway 401 and a new building to be constructed on adjacent land presently owned by OPG.
