JOB OVERVIEW

 

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Finance Product Owner. Reporting to the Senior Manager, FinTech Evolution, this position will represent Finance Process owners in the sustainment and evolution of Finance processes and their supporting technologies (aka Finance Products).

The successful candidate must champion an agile mindset to shift the organization to a model of continuous integration / continuous deployment (CI / CD) of business and technology innovations. This is an exciting opportunity to work in an environment where you will contribute to the digital evolution of OPG’s Finance function and commitment to operational excellence and financial strength.

 

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

 

In the immediate term, the successful candidate will be primarily focused on the ERP Lifecycle Program.  Advanced experience to perform the following functions are essential: 

  • Develop discrete and integrated business process flow diagrams and supporting process narrative documentation;
  • Evaluate Finance business process performance and provide quantifiable opportunities to increase Finance's performance against defined objectives/maturity metrics/benchmarks;
  • Lead/facilitate business process re-engineering activities;
  • Assess and recommend new and emerging technology based on understanding of Finance Business Processes;
  • Assess and recommend new innovations in FinTech and Finance practices based on industry reviews/scans and best practices;
  • Manage the Finance Innovation product backlog in Azure DevOps;
  • Define performance metrics for Finance Product Enhancements/Changes;
  • Define Finance functional requirements for all Finance systems (e.g. SAP ECC, BPC, SAP BW, etc.);
  • Mentor junior team members on Product Ownership, the Agile Mindset; Project Management and Controls; and
  • Act as Product Owner on behalf of Finance in engagement with/support of IT Projects

 

Beyond the ERP Lifecycle Program, the successful candidate will:

 

  • Carry out the redevelopment of procedures with the objective of providing timely, high quality, reliable financial insights to support OPG’s decision agility.  Areas of focus include:  financial processing, financial management, financial reporting, and business planning. Provide advice and guidance for development, enhancement and ongoing maintenance/support.
  • Co-ordinate special studies, analysis, compilations and reporting on advances in corporate FinTech.
  • Work closely with finance operational staff to develop innovations and improvements corporate FinTech.
  • Work closely with Business Process Owners to ensure corporate FinTech products are maintained and enhanced in a timely and effective manner following Finance’s product stewardship model.
  • Coordinate quick wins and minor enhancements which optimize and re-engineer current business processes within Finance. Provide recommendations and carry out formal presentations to senior management.
  • Assist the senior manager by providing advice and guidance, coordination and service support for corporate FinTech products.
  • Develop performance reports and metrics to demonstrate progress and success of the Finance Digital Evolution program.
  • Support automation of financial reporting and/or processing to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Support the senior manager to ensure key functionalities with existing financial and management reporting systems are maintained through any transition.

 

 

EDUCATION

 

  • 4-year university degree in engineering, information technology, data analytics, business administration, finance, accounting, economics, or similar
  • MBA or other post-graduate technology degree preferred
  • PMP and/or CPA certification preferred
  • ITIL or other technology certifications preferred

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Minimum 6 years of relevant working experience.
  • Requires experience in a project management/consultative role in order to provide advice, guidance and ongoing assistance in the development, enhancement and support of financial systems.
  • Requires in-depth knowledge of business rules for time management reporting and hands-on experience in SAP (ECC, SuccessFactors, S/4HANA, BPC, BW).
  • Requires experience in the development or assessment of accounting practices and controls, and preparation of financial and management reports.
  • Requires experience in report automation for financial and management reports.
  • Requires experience and knowledge in Finance capabilities, including accounting, financial planning and analysis, external reporting and financial disclosures, Internal Controls Over Financial Reporting, accounts receivables/payables, etc.
  • Requires business and technical experience in order to participate in the development, and operation of financial systems.
  • Requires experience as a Product Owner, preferably in Finance; familiar with the development of user stories, test cases and backlog management;
  • Requires experience managing agile IT projects and strong knowledge of technology and business function to drive the development of holistic solutions;
  • Requires strong communication skills to be able to articulate business needs as technical requirements; moderate challenging interactions; inspire the adoption or embracing of change;
  • Requires experience developing performance metrics and dashboards to demonstrate the effectiveness of product enhancements, ROI and health of the CI / CD pipeline
  • Preference for data analytics skills and executive reporting, particularly in development of data sets, metrics and dashboards
  • Preference for experience and familiarity with Azure DevOps, Microsoft PowerBI, Python and SQL.
