Our Nuclear Fleet operates the Pickering and Darlington Nuclear Power Stations, with ten operating reactors.  Renewable Generation operates 2 biomass units, 4 dual gas/oil units and 66 hydroelectric station, all which play a vital role in helping to power Ontario.  The Commercial Operations group is leading OPG's participation in the Ontario electricity and surrounding markets.  The Commercial Operations division includes the functions of Market Operations and Asset & Transmission Management, and these two groups act as the market interface between the power markets and OPG's entire portfolio/resources.




Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for dedicated, results driven and dynamic professionals to join the Commercial Operations group of our Renewable Generation Division as Engineering and Applied Science Graduate Trainees located in Toronto, Ontario.


Reporting to the Senior Managers of Real Time Market Operations and Asset and Resource Optimization, our new graduate hires will apply their professional skills and experience in providing strategic and operational support to the Commerical Operations group as well as other groups throughout OPG.  Our unique trainee program allows professionals to obtain a broad understanding of the Market Operations and Asset & Transmission Management businesses through developmental rotations in various technical departments.  Throughout the program, recent graduates work closely with and will be supported by a network of dedicated OPG employees that include emerging leaders within the organization as well as seasoned staff who are ready to coach and mentor.  The graduate trainee program is focused on buidling a foundation of talent that will lead OPG into the future.

  • Working with the Day Ahead group in Market Operations to support the offer strategy and portfolio management of OPG assets in the day ahead timeframe
  • Providing outage optimization, hydroelectric optimization, and transmission management support to the Asset & Transmission Management group
  • Potentially working as a key member in other OPG functions within the Finance division such as Market Affairs, Commercial Market Strategy, and others




The successful candidates will be recent university graduates with a bachelor's degree in any of the following disciplines:


Engineering: Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Computer, Water Resources, Industrial, Engineering Science, Engineering Physics

Sciences: Computer Science or Math




  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to develop and deliver reports, briefings and project plans

  • Good organizational and leadership skills

  • Self-starter who can work both independently and in a team environment that is dedicated to engineering excellence and best practices

  • Willing to learn, take initiative, troubleshoot and problem solve while posessing a 'can do' attitude with a track record in leadership and successes in varied endeavours


In addition to the above skills, it would be beneficial to also have:


  • Practical experience gained during summer/co-op/internship employment or other work experience in a technical, process or manufacturing environment
  • Computer coding skills such as VBA, Java or another language
  • Demonstrated safety consciousness
  • A valid Class 'G' Driver's Licence
