Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dedicated and results driven professional to join our team in the role of an Applications Analyst in our Downtown Toronto location.


Reporting to the Section Head, Information Systems (Client Server Applications) in IT Services, the Applications Analyst will contribute by developing custom web applications and supporting existing business applications including Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) software used by the OPG Market Operations, Finance and Renewable Generation businesses.  You will help us to the maintain the high availability and reliability of our systems using industry standard practices like git source control and continuous integration and deployment.

  • Work with team members and other IT organizations to maintain the smooth operation of LOB business applications to meet established operating level agreements.  This includes incident management and troubleshooting of software during and outside of regular business hours.
  • Develop or modify application software to meet changing business needs or to accommodate strategic initiatives such as the migration of our computing platform to Microsoft Azure.
  • Take over primary support of one or more business applications to become the subject matter expert for this software when dealing with the LOB or other IT groups.  This includes providing best effort on-call support for the application(s) outside of regular business hours.
  • Provide user support for our applications to the LOB by answering their questions, working with them to implement new business processes and to identify ways to improve the software.
  • Carry out IT Services responsibilities in the Incident Management and Change Management processes.  This includes creating incident reports and change management requests when needed, investigating incidents assigned to you and closing incidents and change requests when appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with others during project development & execution and during day-to-day application support
  • Identify and investigate opportunities to improve our service or to reduce operational costs




  •  4-year university degree in Engineering or Computer Science program
  • Certification in various IT areas such as cloud computing (esp. Azure), application development, database programming & management and IT networks & firewalls by recognized authorities or companies is an asset.
  • ITIL certification is an asset.




 We are seeking a professional with the following:


  • Minimum 6 years experience in a similar role
  • Experience working in highly regulated industry would be considered an asset
  • Strong strategic and external focus in order to identify and analyze critical business issues
  • Experience with various analytic techniques, analysis practices and methods to effectively integrate information from a number of sources and business perspectives.
  • Experience in reviewing and challenging Business Case Summaries
  • Knowledge of ISO55000
  • Previous leadership experience
  • Project management experience would be considered an asset
  • Requires a knowledge of finance, economics and business policy, financial accounting, financial markets and investment analysis and diversification
  • Requires a knowledge of advanced quantitative methods and statistics, forecasting and risk analysis methodologies
  • Financial modelling capability
  • Requires strong computer skills to evolve, enhance and support data management.
