Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is excited to offer two (2) student opportunities in our Asset Management and Optimization Department in Etobicoke, ON. This is an eight (8) month student placement commending in May 2019


All students applying for student positions at OPG must meet the below eligibility:

  • Enrolled in full-time studies at a post-secondary institution.
  • Have a minimum average of 70% cumulative GPA.
  • Returning to full-time studies in the same program following the completion of the work term OR requiring the work term or co-op placement to graduate.



  • Work with the team of data analysts to perform quantitative analytics and machine learning.
  • Support deriving business insights from internal and external benchmarking.
  • Assist in drafting evidence in support of rates submissions which may include data collection, data compilation, and liasing with subjecter matter experts to complete variance analysis explanations.
  • Perform linear and nonlinear statistical modelling.
  • Provide insights into various OPG databases using data visualization software packages.
  • Provide assistance in supporting the integration of various new software products for digital plant applications.



Minimum completion of 3rd year at a University specializing in Business or Mechanical/Electrical/Civil/Metallurgy Engineering.



Preference may be given to the candidate who has the following skills and qualifications:

  • Familiar with R/Python/Matlab programming languages
  • Familiar with basics of machine learning
  • Familiar with engineering basics of hydro electric power generation
  • Familiarity with regulated utilities and/or experience working with regulators
  • Experience in business analysis, finance, or economics
  • Above average familiarity with MS Excel and MS Access
  • Strong communication skills
  • A valid G2 or higher driver’s licence is required for the position
