JOB OVERVIEW

 

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Senior Plant Engineer/Officer (Civil Structural) supporting the Renewable Generation division of our organization and based in our Renfrew, Ontario location.

 

Reporting to the Production Supervisor - Technical, the Senior Plant Engineer/Officer - (Civil Structural) will provide technical support for the safe, efficient, and economical commissioning and operation of hydroelectric generating station assets.

 

This is an exciting opportunity for an engineering professional with a Civil Engineering background to work in an environment where you will contribute to Ontario Power Generation’s continued growth and success in being Ontario’s low cost electricity generator of choice. 

 

 KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

 

The Senior Plant Engineer/Officer (Civil Structural) will contribute to the group by providing the following engineering services:

 

  • Plan, coordinate and conduct civil/structural engineering assessments, studies, inspections, investigations, designs, rehabilitations, and evaluations for dams & structures associated with hydroelectric generating stations.
  • Preparation of drawings, technical specifications, construction estimates and request for proposals for civil rehabilitation work.  Undertake proposal evaluation, award, contract negotiations, contract administration, construction monitoring and resolution of contract disputes.
  • Perform the role of OPG Owner’s Engineer, recognize technical deficiencies, recommend remedial measures, review and approve engineering documents to the best of OPG’s interest and compliance with applicable codes and standards..
  • Respond to emergencies, structural failures or unsatisfactory performance, conduct field investigations, prepare technical reports and recommend actions.
  • Knowledge of Dam Safety related regulations would be an asset.
  • Perform other duties as required.

 

EDUCATION 

 

  • Minimum 4-year university degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Structural Engineering.

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Unrestricted P. Eng. certification in good standing in the Province of Ontario is preferredEligibility to become a Professional Engineer in Ontario will be considered.
  • 5+ years of relevant industry experience with sound knowledge in the areas of analysis and design of Steel and Concrete Structures preferred; candidates with less experience will also be considered
  • Experience with Hydroelectric Power Plant is a highly desirable asset;
  • Knowledge of Dam Safety requirements for concrete and earth dams, and other water retaining structures;
  • Experience and knowledge of major design codes and standards such as NBC, OBC, and CSA associated with steel and concrete structures;
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and organize in short and medium term and to prepare and meet budget and schedule commitments;
  • Demonstrated effective interfacing and collaboration with key stakeholders;
  • Demonstrated effective ability to manage multiple priorities and to influence others;
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills;
  • Results oriented with high integrity.
  • Valid Class G Ontario Drivers License in good standing;
  • Willingness to travel via 25% of time;
