Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a results driven professionals to join our team in the role of Mechanical Training Technician for our Darlington and/or Pickering locations.


Reporting to the Manager, Fleet Mechanical Maintenance Training, the Mechanical Training Technician will be responsible for providing training in industrial structures, equipment, systems and facilities. This is an exciting opportunity to work in an environment where you will contribute to Ontario Power Generation’s continued growth and success in being Ontario’s low cost electricity generator of choice. 



  • Assign and oversee tasks performed by trainees in a variety of settings including classroom, shop and on-the-job.
  • Carry out Job, Task, needs and/or cost analysis to justify courses within assigned areas.
  • Prepare curriculum, establish learning objectives and method.
  • Conduct pilot sessions, peer evaluations, and post-training evaluations to improve upon the viability of the function.
  • Deliver approved training to trainees within assigned area of expertise.
  • Carry out post-training evaluations and utilize post-training feedback to identify gaps and areas of improvement.
  • Administer and grade approved tests and evaluations in accordance with standards.
  • Ensure safety and order of training setting in accordance with the Conduct of Training and associated procedures and standards.
  • Modify aspects of training, tools and lesson material to ensure effectiveness.
  • Prepare training settings, making changes, as necessary. Evaluate trainee progress and mark approved tests in accordance with standards.
  • Report on trainee progress and issues while carrying out other administrative and instructional tasks associated with the function of the role.



  • Technical or Community College Trade Certificate in Mechanical Engineering Technology (asset)


We are seeking a Training professional who has the following:


  • Minimum 8 years of experience in Trades as a Journeyperson in any and moderately skilled in the remainder of the following trades:  Industrial Millwright Mechanic, Construction Millwright, Welder, Machinist, Tool/Die Maker, or Steamfitter;
  • Strong oral instruction and training skills;
  • Familiar with the working properties of various metals;
  • Experienced working from blueprints, work orders and specifications;
  • Good working knowledge of the use of mechanical equipment in various environments;
  • Strong leadership and training abilities while providing direction, monitoring and coaching;
  • Demonstrated exceptional critical thinking skills;
  • Well developed communication skills (verbal and written) that will be evident in your technical training;
  • Ability to work well in a highly technical environment;
  • Willing to travel up to 25% of the time;
  • Hold a valid driver’s license.
