JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Senior Technical Engineer/Officer.
Reporting to the Manager, Engineering this position is responsible to develop and maintain computer hardware and software programs and monitor system performance.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Integrate new or replacement designs into existing control computer systems.
- Hardware Development Tools: Utilize computer component development tools to design, test, and refine control computing system components.
- Real-Time Process Computing (RTPC): Manage, implement, and enhance Real-Time Process Computing (RTPC) to ensure reliable and efficient system performance.
- Preparation of Design Documentation: Prepare comprehensive computer hardware design documents, detailed work plans for installation, and Engineering Change packages to support system updates and improvements.
- Lab-Based Computing Work: Perform development, testing, and troubleshooting in a computer lab environment, ensuring accurate design and validation of developed solutions.
- Understanding of digital logic, computer architecture, digital electronics, computer buses, and basic operating system concepts; Determine system and modification requirements and author required documents including traceability matrices
- Develop and execute computer hardware and software test plans; provide test results in a report based format; Develop and update computing system documentation, such as design manuals, operating procedures, maintenance procedures, diagnostics, system requirements, design descriptions, etc.
- Validation and verification of software designs (code review, configuration testing, subsystem testing, etc.); Computing modification scoping and planning; Implementing software modifications using both high level (C/C++/Python/.NET) and low-level (assembly, machine code) languages
QUALIFICATIONS
- 4 year Bachelor’s degree in Computer, Software, or Electronics engineering is required;
- Minimum 2 years experience in a computer systems engineering role
- Experience working with various programing environment C/C++/Python/.NET
- Experience with configuring database and web servers
- Ability to provide technical oversight on DAO (data acquisition), SCADA, Industrial human-machine interface displays and PLC software, hardware systems
- Hands-on experience working in lab environments with test equipment such as logic analyzers/oscilloscopes/function generators/multimeters to design, test, and troubleshoot digital computer/embedded systems.
- Experience designing PCBs with schematic capture and PCB layout software (ex: PADS, OrCAD, Altium, KiCAD, etc.).
- Experience in computer hardware component design and integration.
- Experience with developing and/or executing test plans for large custom computer related systems.
- Proficiency in preparing technical requirements and documentation such as requirement documents, technical specifications, and design change packages; Ability to provide computing technical expertise and oversight to large computer multidiscipline projects; Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and ability to work as a team player
- Candidate must be a fully licensed engineer in the Province of Ontario, or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
