This role supports the commissioning, ongoing operation, and maintenance of facilities to ensure safe, compliant, and reliable performance.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Provide technical leadership to support commissioning, operations, and maintenance across major facility systems—troubleshooting issues, coordinating technical work, and proactively identifying risks and improvement opportunities.
  • Lead fire protection program evaluations and audits, including Fire Hazard Assessments, Fire Safe Showdown Assessments, and Fire Protection Audits; interpret and apply NBCC, NFCC, CSA N293/N393, and applicable NFPA requirements.
  • Ensure ongoing regulatory and licence compliance by supporting adherence to CNSC/site licence conditions and fire protection code/standard obligations; prepare regulatory compliance and alternative compliance submissions as required.
  • Maintain readiness of fire protection systems and equipment, verifying operability, identifying deficiencies, and initiating/overseeing compensatory measures to sustain compliance and safe operation.
  • Develop, update, and embed program documentation (standards, procedures, instructions, guides) that translates code, standard, and regulatory requirements into practical station-level expectations.
  • Produce clear, defensible technical deliverables, including concise written and verbal reports, recommendations, responses to external requests, and historically traceable documentation; initiate studies/investigations to drive continuous improvement.
  • Support planning and resourcing activities, including preparing/reviewing specifications for purchasing requisitions (materials, services, equipment), reviewing internal/external proposals, and contributing data for budget planning and variance monitoring.
  • Enable and coordinate team and stakeholder effectiveness, developing training materials and supporting training programs; periodically assigning/checking work for staff; and collaborating with internal stakeholders and external fire protection/emergency response organizations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4 Year University Degree in Engineering, Applied Science or Science.
  • Minimum (5) years of experience in a similar or highly regulated industry.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of fire protection principles and applicable engineering/industry practices.
  • Working knowledge of fire hazard assessments, including Fire Safe Shutdown assessments, and familiarity with relevant codes and standards (e.g., the National Building Code of Canada).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to lead meetings, facilitate discussions, and deliver clear, well-structured presentations to diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong execution and governance mindset, with proven ability to follow established procedures, maintain compliance, and apply a questioning, analytical approach to identify and resolve issues.
  • Nuclear industry experience is considered an asset, including familiarity with nuclear safety culture, regulated environments, and associated documentation expectations.
  • Candidate must be a fully licensed engineer in the province of Ontario or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario.

The successful candidate will exhibit uncompromising integrity and commitment to upholding corporate values, and the OPG Code of Business Conduct.

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods. Maintaining a high-performance culture and excellence is a core expectation of every member of our leadership team and is rewarded through the established compensation framework.

OPG is committed to employment equity. As such, we encourage applicants from equity-seeking communities (Indigenous Peoples, racialized persons, persons with disabilities, and women). We strongly believe that alleviating the under-representation of equity-seeking individuals will create a stronger OPG team and allow us to better serve the needs of our diverse communities.

In order to fulfill the above-mentioned purpose, priority in hiring may be given to qualified persons who self-identify as a member of equity-seeking groups as identified in the application process. This initiative constitutes a special program under the Human Rights Code/Canadian Human Rights Act.
