JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for an enthusiastic and accountable project management professional to join our team in the role of Section Manager, Commercial Services Projects in our Pickering, ON location. 

 

Reporting to the Manager, Commercial Services Projects, the Section Manager, Commercial Services Projects is responsible for leading and implementing projects in the Nuclear Commercial Services Portfolio focused on a broad scope of functional areas across OPG Nuclear.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Provide leadership in management of the project including project/initiative design, project planning and scheduling, relationship management, cost schedule, optimization of project implementation and execution.
  • Define project objectives, scope, estimates, schedules, work plans and all resource requirements, (including equipment and staffing).
  • Integrate the efforts of all persons contributing to a project, coordinate and implement project technical work/solutions and initiate the acquisition of appropriate approvals.
  • Explore alternatives and recommend options to successfully achieve the project objectives.
  • The main functional areas for these projects are: Front End Planning, Design Engineering, Construction/Execution teams, Work Management, Supply Chain and Chemistry Processes.
  • Prepare reports and status updates for the project to communicate to senior management or other stakeholders as required. 
  • Estimate, track and manage project costs.  Monitor actual project costs, and investigate and explain variances. Assist in the preparation of financial justification for the release of project funds and obtain such approvals.
  • Identify risks and mitigating actions to eliminate or mitigate risks. 

 

EDUCATION

  • 4-year university degree in Engineering, Science or Business.
  • Project Management Institute (PMI) certification is preferred (i.e. PMP).
  • P.Eng registered with the PEO is considered an asset  
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA) designation, considered an asset.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for an engaged project management professional with the following: 

  • 6-10 years of project management experience;
  • 3+ years of experience leading strategic projects involving people, process, implementation  of  new technology/innovation and culture change;
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary and multi-phase long term projects/programs;
  • Experience in the operation, maintenance, work management and outage aspects of a  nuclear  generating station is an asset;
  • Knowledge and deep understanding of project/program management methodologies (WBS,  Top Down/Bottom Up methods, planning and monitoring, change management, Scope  management, Cost Control), practices and other project management related fields;
  • Managing stakeholders at various levels in the organization;
  • People and team oriented with a strong ability to establish an excellent level of confidence, credibility and cooperation with program and project stakeholders;
  • Strong change agent that has led larger project teams while demonstrating their knowledge and ability in project management principles and practices;
  • Ability to communicate well, both verbally and written, is essential;
  • Ability to present information clearly and effectively;
