JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Software Application Developer.

 

Reporting to the Manager, Monitoring & Diagnostic (M&D) Center Analytics, this position is responsible to to design, develop, implement, and support software solutions that enhance business performance and operational insights aligned with M&D’s core business goals.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain software applications and tools using Python, Node.js, Angular, and Azure Cloud to support business processes and performance evaluation across the OPG fleet.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather requirements, define software specifications, and deliver solutions that meet business needs for reliability, asset management, and maintenance.
  • Monitor, maintain, and enhance existing software systems and data platforms, ensuring functionality, integrity, and security.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, user guides, and procedures for developed software tools and platforms.
  • Provide training and support to department staff and business units in the use of software applications and digital tools.
  • Conduct analysis and prepare reports in support of business performance monitoring and regulatory reporting.
  • Facilitate collaboration with IT, Nuclear, Hydro, and other plant groups to ensure alignment with OPG’s technology standards and business objectives.
  • Perform research and development assignments in support of digital transformation and operational excellence initiatives.
  • Developing applications in support of reporting to external agencies (e.g. IESO, CEA, NERC, EUCG). Support working groups, committees and task forces with external agencies and industry groups on electricity planning, reliability studies, financial evaluations, modeling and other related studies.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in software development, including hands-on programming with Python, Node.js, and Angular.
  • Experience developing and deploying applications in Azure Cloud environments or similar cloud platforms.
  • Proven ability to analyze, design, and implement solutions for complex business problems involving large data sets and multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to prepare technical documentation and present to diverse audiences.
  • Experience with dashboarding tools (e.g., Power BI), SQL databases, Visual Studio, Databricks, and Jupyter Notebooks are considered an asset.
  • Candidate must be a fully licensed engineer in the province of Ontario, or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions.
