JOB OVERVIEW 
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Project & Control Engineer.

 

Reporting to the Manager, Project Controls, this position is responsible for implementing and maintaining project controls systems within the Projects and Modifications and Project Services Organization. This role ensures effective planning, scheduling, budgeting, risk management, and cost control to support successful project delivery.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES  

  • Coordinate and facilitate Front End Planning (FEP) processes, including risk profiling, project scoping, and workshop facilitation.
  • Develop and maintain integrated, resource-loaded project schedules using Primavera P6 and MS Project, ensuring alignment with project scope, risks, and budgets.
  • Establish and monitor project budgets; support the development of Project Execution Plans and Business Case Summaries. Conduct earned value management (EVM) analysis. 
  • Load and maintain project plans in relevant project control systems, ensuring alignment with financial and work management systems throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Perform regular schedule and cost updates, analysis, and forecasting; prepare project metrics and variance reports, recommending corrective actions as needed.
  • Ensure adherence to change management processes, including documentation, approvals, and baseline maintenance.
  • Interface with cross-functional teams, including Finance and Engineering, to ensure accurate project information and alignment across all stakeholders.
  • Support project closeout activities, including final reconciliation, system closeout, and documentation to provide a complete and auditable project record.

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • 6–8 years of experience in project controls, project management support, or related roles, preferably within Nuclear, Hydroelectric, or Thermal generating facilities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Alternate Education may be considered as follows:
    • Project management program (3-year program)
    • Business Administration (General and specific to Project management (3-year program)
    • Technologist (Trades or IT) program (3-year program)
  • Strong knowledge of project controls principles, including scoping, risk management, estimating, budgeting, and scheduling.
  • Proficiency with project management and scheduling software (e.g., Primavera, MS Project) and business/financial systems (e.g., SAP, Ecosys).
  • Familiarity with engineering and construction management concepts, methods, and techniques.
  • Experience with corporate financial processes and cross-departmental interfaces.
  • Advanced computer skills and experience developing and maintaining computerized project information, costs, forecasts and Power BI utilization. 
  • Candidate must be a fully licensed engineer in the province of Ontario, or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario (Engineering roles only)

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
