OPG is looking for a dedicated, results driven and dynamic professional to join our team in the role of Mechanical Engineer – Rotating Equipment located in Pickering, Ontario.

Reporting to the Section Manager, Rotating Equipment the Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the oversight and day-to-day management of the pump program to help ensure safe reliable operation of critical pumps at our Pickering Nuclear Generating Station (PNGS). You will interface with various engineering groups (Plant Design, Performance Engineering, Procurement Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations and Maintenance, Reactor Safety etc.) and have the opportunity to work both in the office and in the station.

  • Responsible for ensuring the reliability of the day-to-day operation of rotating equipment (pumps);
  • Monitor, assess and provide data to support the health of pumps at PNGS;
  • Investigate failures by identifying the root or apparent cause of malfunctions, breakdowns and poor performance of pumps;
  • Prepare, review, verify technical documents, specifications, presentations and reports;
  • Interface with departments such as supply chain to procure parts, evaluate new equipment, provide oversight for inspection and testing, etc.
  • Interface with Operations and Maintenance as a technical resource and attend to the station as required;
  • Interface with several Engineering department to collaborate on initiatives, collect data, review equipment health, etc.
  • Other duties as required specified by the Section Manager – Rotating Equipment.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and/or Applied Science (Mechanical Engineer preferred)


  • 5+ Years of Engineering experience ideally supporting rotating equipment & pumps;
  • 2+ Years of Engineering experience specific to pumps;
  • Experience working on a multi-disciplinary Engineering team;
  • Experience with the procurement of rotating equipment (is an asset);
  • Experience with hands-on investigation of pump failures;
  • Experience working in the Nuclear industry is considered an asset (but not mandatory).
