JOB OVERVIEW

 

OPG is looking for an innovative, proactive, and results-driven compensation professional to join our team in the role of Manager, Compensation.  Reporting to the Senior Manager, Compensation, the Manager, Compensation will be an integral individual contributor supporting compensation programs across OPG. The role will lead cross-functional projects and act as a key partner to the business, providing functional advice, guidance, delivery, and execution as a compensation subject matter expert.   You will be responsible for implementing compensation strategies and programs to align with OPG’s business objectives and growth strategy. You will collaborate with HR and operational teams across the business to drive OPG’s compensation principles, while maintaining compliance with legal requirements and collective agreements. In this role, you will bring significant value by applying your creative and technical expertise, relationship management capabilities, analytical mindset, and problem-solving skills.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

 

  • Lead annual year-end compensation planning, including designing the project plan, establishing timelines, implementing and testing systems, and providing communication and training resources.
  • Support the development and execution of OPG’s compensation programs, periodically assessing effectiveness and ensuring compliance with OPG policies and procedures, legal requirements, and adherence to collective agreement terms.
  • Manage compensation project-based work end-to-end, overseeing all aspects from initial planning and coordination to successful execution and completion, ensuring that project goals, objectives, and deliverables are clearly defined and aligned with organizational strategies.
  • Act as the key partner in matters related to compensation, providing guidance and advice on compensation decisions and communication in partnership with the business.
  • Maintain established compensation policies and procedures, review and advise on compensation requests.
  • Manage technology platforms for compensation decisions, including requirement collaboration, system improvement implementation, user testing of system changes, and coordination with HR Systems and IT teams.
  • Participate in relevant compensation surveys; analyze market and benchmarking data, provide recommendations, and manage short-term and long-term incentive awards programs. 
  • Contribute to the delivery of key messages, communications, and education materials related to compensation programs and processes. Prepare, arrange and contribute to the delivery of workshops and training information for HR Business Partners and other staff as needed.
  • Maintain up-to-date compensation documentation, ensure availability on company platforms, and drive process improvement and automation.
  • Respond to audit requests and stay informed about compensation trends and relevant legislation.
  • Actively participate in meetings, task teams, and committees to meet department requirements and provide input.

 

EDUCATION

 

  • Bachelor's Degree or Post Graduate Certificate in Human Resources, Business, Finance or Accounting or related field is required; and 
  • Working towards and or completed Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) certification an asset.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

We are seeking a motivated and results-focused compensation professional who has the following:

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive compensation experience, with a strong emphasis on managing year-end compensation planning and exposure to end-to-end, full cycle compensation processes.
  • Demonstrated experience with administration of salary surveys and market benchmarking
  • Proven experience in scaling compensation programs.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare comprehensive documentation and reports for internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Excellent collaboration skills with the ability to build cross-functional partnerships.
  • Possesses a growth mindset and a strong drive to enhance compensation practices.
  • Innovative mindset focused on process improvement and efficiency.
  • Comfortable working autonomously, navigating ambiguity, and assuming responsibility.
  • Agile and adaptable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and strong numerical proficiency.
  • Strong presentation skills to facilitate the delivery of information and training related to compensation programs.
  • High level of proficiency in MS Office tools, particularly advanced knowledge and experience working with MS Excel to analyze large data sets. 
  • Comprehensive understanding of effective, current, and emerging practices, issues, insights, tactics, and trends in compensation.
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical, research, and creative problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Previous experience and working knowledge of HRIS/compensation systems, preferably SAP SuccessFactors.
  • Ability to quickly understand business processes, corporate projects, and strategic initiatives, with the ability to analyze complex situations and provide sound recommendations.
  • Experience with project-based work, demonstrating initiative and independence to achieve successful outcomes.
