Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is excited to offer one (1) student opportunity in our Leadership Training and Development Department in Pickering, ON. This is an eight (8) month student placement commencing in May, 2019.


All students applying for student positions at OPG must meet the below eligibility:

  • Enrolled in full-time studies at a post-secondary institution.
  • Have a minimum average of 70% cumulative GPA.
  • Returning to full-time studies in the same program following the completion of the work term OR requiring the work term or co-op placement to graduate.



  • Provide training services and support in specific specialties such as Leadership Training & Development and Instructor Training.   Develop, implement and maintain standards, methods and procedures for carrying out training.  Maintain a current knowledge of best business practices, existing and emerging technology through literature reviews, self-study, and the development of workshops and seminars.
  • Coordinate and participate in activities involving reviewing existing programs to support current and future activities toward the overall long range training plans/objectives.  Activities involve:
    • reviewing current practices and identifying problem areas
    • reviewing future requirements for expansion and/or modification and ensuring that all alternatives are identified and that selected alternatives are compatible with the long term objectives
    • determining the long range requirements of the users and reflecting these in the planning process for resource and development services and describing the long term plan to guide the development of new or revised systems
  • Provide support on effective training through the design, development implementation and evaluation of customized and ongoing training programs.  Maintain a continuous liaison with line management to assess their needs, determine effectiveness of the programs in force and to stimulate an awareness of the latest training methodologies available.
  • Liaise with line management and training delivery supervisors regarding human performance problems and training needs.  Analyze/supervise staff in analysis of performance problems to identify the specific skill deficiencies in staff populations. 
  • Consult with clients to obtain agreement on the design and use of alternate forms of Training.
  • Investigate, evaluate and implement improvements in Leadership Training Program and associated technologies.

Perform other duties as required.



  • Minimum completion of 2nd year at a University specializing in Engineering.



Preference may be given to the candidate who has the following skills and qualifications:

  • A valid G2 or higher driver’s licence is required for the position.

  • Experience using Microsoft tools, programming with the use of C#, Visual Basic, HTML, and SQL.
  • Proficiency with the use of technology.
