JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Inspection & Maintenance Technician.
Reporting to the FLM, this position is responsible for performing non-destructive examinations and maintenance of equipment and facilities (NDE) using radiographic, ultrasonic, eddy current, surface, optical/visual or other methods. Performs inspection using NDE techniques, of various pressure boundary components, welds and supports, lifting equipment and other equipment as designated using radiographic, ultrasonic, eddy current, surface, optical/visual or other methods, equipment mobilization, de-mobilization, and maintenance.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Perform NDE (radiographic, ultrasonic, eddy current, surface, visual) on pressure boundaries, welds, lifting devices, and nuclear components.
- Develop and follow detailed procedures for inspections, equipment setup, calibration, and maintenance tasks.
- Interpret NDE data, write technical findings, and prepare visual summaries for reports and presentations.
- Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain NDE instruments and complex electromechanical inspection tools.
- Measure and document turbine blade erosion, pressure tube elongation, and calandria sag; maintain nuclear components including tube plugging.
- Oversee and mentor staff during inspections, ensuring procedures and safety standards are met.
- Verify compliance with welding codes and standards; review welding records and NDE of welds.
- Liaise with operations and maintenance teams, deliver NDE training, and uphold safety and regulatory requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Completion of Grade 12 (high school diploma) or equivalent.
- Appropriate certifications in Non-Destructive Examination (NDE), such as CGSB Level II or Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) techniques, as required for the NDE methods performed.
- Strong understanding of material science, industrial metallurgy, physics, chemistry, and industrial methodology as they relate to NDE and technical analysis.
- Proven ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot complex electromechanical devices and precision measurement equipment.
- Ability to prepare detailed, concise technical reports and communicate effectively in English with team members and other departments.
- Knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and procedures for inspection, welding, and maintenance in an industrial or nuclear environment.
