JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of an Environmental Advisor.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Environment Health & Safety, this position is responsible to provide expert leadership in advising Nuclear Projects and Functions by interpreting environmental legislation, providing field oversight, managing regulatory relationships, securing necessary environmental approvals and permits and addressing approvals and permits requirements to ensure regulatory compliance and optimal environmental performance.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Environmental Legislation and Programs: Advise Nuclear Projects and Functions on, including but not limited to: Waste Management, Effluent and Emissions Management, Contaminated Lands, Spill Management, Soil and Groundwater Management, Environmental Compliance Approvals and Environmental Regulatory Permits, Biodiversity, Fish and Endangered Species Protection, Ensure alignment with regulatory and corporate standards.
- Field Oversight: Advise and review environmental management plans. Ensure all policies, procedures, and records are current and compliant with legislative requirements. Monitor, assess and report on compliance and performance against environmental regulatory requirements and approvals/permits.
- Technical Expertise & Support: Provide expert interpretation and advice on environmental legislation, regulations, and policies. Provide expert interpretation and advice on environmental legislation, regulations, and policies. Establish and maintain effective relationships with regulatory agencies and stakeholders. Obtain necessary Environmental approvals, permits, and licenses.
- Regulatory Liaison & Negotiation: Liaise and negotiate with regulatory bodies (e.g., MECP, MNR, DFO, CNSC, TC) to secure and influence conditions for permits, approvals, and licenses.
- Reporting & Data Management: Prepare, analyze, and interpret environmental compliance and performance reports for regulatory agencies and internal stakeholders. Develop and maintain environmental data management and reporting systems. Prepare key environmental communications and reports for executive leadership, the Board of Directors, government, and the public.
- First Nations Engagement: Communicate and liaise with the Indigenous Relations team to engage First Nations on regulatory approvals.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 4 Year University Degree in appropriate field of Engineering or Science
- 2+ years experience in: Environmental Approvals: Significant experience with environmental permits and approvals processes.
- Environmental Management Performance & Oversight: Experience in field oversight, monitoring and improving environmental management performance, including the identification and resolution of environmental issues, and recommending improvements as needed.
- Coordination & Leadership: Demonstrated ability to coordinate the involvement of Nuclear Projects and Functions in: Ensuring timely and appropriate responses to current and emerging environmental issues, Championing opportunities for environmental performance improvement.
- Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a track record of effective teamwork and committee participation.

This position is moving to OPG Corporate Headquarters: In Summer 2025, OPG will officially welcome employees to our new Corporate Headquarters located at 1908 Colonel Sam Drive, Oshawa, Ontario. This position will be temporarily based in Pickering, ON until the move to Headquarters in the Summer of 2025.

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
