JOB OVERVIEW
 

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for dynamic, strategic and results-driven professionals to join our Advanced Inspection & Maintenance (AIM) team in the role of Engineer/Scientist/Technical Officer located in Pickering, Ontario.  The Engineer/Scientist/Technical Officer will have the opportunity to contribute to Ontario Power Generation by supporting inspection and maintenance programs in the Darlington and Pickering Nuclear Generation facilities, with the potential to expand support to OPGs Renewable Generation facilities.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES  

 

The Engineer/Scientist/Technical Officer in our Advanced Inspection & Maintenance (AIM) team may have the opportunity to be part of a very dynamic and innovative team to support the following departments and/or perform the following tasks:

 

  • Technology Development

Project Engineer / Modification Team Leader for AIM Technology Development state of the art tooling projects.

 

  • Fuel Channels

Perform tooling maintenance and procedure development used for intrusive maintenance and/or modifications on Fuel Channel inspection and delivery machine tooling/equipment.  In addition, will interact with Projects to support new tooling development and testing.

 

  • Engineering & Equipment Reliability

Support/execute tooling and Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) development and modifications, including conceptual development and roadmaps for technology/capability advancement.

 

  • Reactor Maintenance

Support CANDU reactor maintenance with fuel channel replacements and/or reactivity mechanism replacement programs.

 

  • Heat Transfer Equipment Department

Support Steam Generator (SG) and Heat Exchanger Inspections and Maintenance services for Nuclear and/or Renewable Generation customers that includes various NDE / Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) and SG Water lancing oversight.

 

  • Delivery & Maintenance Systems

Work with I&C/electrical/or mechanical software to help the team maintain and deploy the Universal Delivery Machine (UDM) and/or the Rapid Delivery Machine (RDM) in support of remote delivery of Fuel Channel inspection tooling.    

 

Other Key Accountabilities include:

  • Working with a multi-disciplined team of engineering and technical specialists to support the operation of the various mechanical and electrical systems;
  • Developing and executing projects in compliance with customer expectations and the industry's demanding set of regulations and standards;
  • Maintaining written documented processes and procedures to reflect improved operating methods and additions to all supported systems;
  • Co-ordinate the clarification of specification requirements, and arrange for necessary changes and/or co-ordinate technical work as required in a number of major work areas;
  • Maintain and/or update operating and other specified department/divisional procedures;
  • Solve problems, to provide advice and guidance, to initiate developmental studies and to make recommendations during the design, commissioning and operation of a nuclear facility; to evaluate components or materials, and to perform economic studies and evaluations associated with the design, commissioning and operation of a nuclear facility.

 

EDUCATION

  • University Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Applied Science
  • Candidate must be a fully licensed engineer in the province of Ontario, or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ideal candidates will have worked in a Nuclear Engineering environment
  • Working with a multi-disciplined team of engineering and technical specialists to support the operation of the various mechanical and electrical systems;
  • Developing, planning, supporting and tracking the execution of projects in compliance with the industry's demanding set of regulations and standards;
  • Co-ordinate the clarification of specification requirements, and arrange for necessary changes and/or co-ordinate technical work as required in a number of major work areas;
  • Experience providing technical evaluations and advice, solve problems and coordinate work as required, in a number of major work areas, in support of the commissioning, operation and maintenance of the facilities.
  • Good organizational and leadership skills, and to be a self-starter who can work both independently and in a team environment that is dedicated to engineering excellence and best practices.
  • Have a strong interest in fast-paced, challenging work environments where showing initiative and self motivation are assets;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and be comfortable leading meetings and giving presentations; including the ability to develop and deliver reports, briefings, project plans.
  • Strong in understanding, executing and following governance and procedures with a questioning and analytical attitude/approach under minimum required supervision;
  • Proven track record on delivering results;
  • Maintaining written documented processes and procedures to reflect improved operating methods and additions to all supported systems;
  • Perform documentation reviews to ensure work performed is fully documented and has a complete set of records available;
  • Knowledge of CANDU reactor design and operation to support reactor maintenance may be an asset
  • Knowledge of materials science/engineering principles, e.g., fuel channel design and operation, steam generator design, steam generator tube material degradation mechanisms may be an asset
  • Knowledge of codes and standards in inspection, maintenance, and life cycle management, such as CSA Code N285.4, or N285.5, or N285.7 or N287.7 inspection requirements may be an asset
  • Knowledge of non-destructive examination techniques (ultrasonic and eddy current) may be an asset
  • Knowledge in developing inspection requirements/aging management strategies, and assessing inspection results may be an asset
  • Knowledge of OPG’s ECC Process (Engineering Change Control) may be an asset
