JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professionals to join our Nuclear Refurbishment team in the role of Design Engineers (Technical Engineer/Officers) supporting the Pickering Refurbishment project.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of one of Canada’s most important clean-energy projects, a large scale, multi-year project to extend the life of a major nuclear facility. This is a critical initiative supporting the continued delivery of safe, reliable, low-carbon power in Ontario.
Reporting to the Manager, Projects, you will be responsible for providing multidisciplinary design engineering support and oversight to enable the successful planning, execution, and restart of refurbishment work.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Provide design engineering, design support, and configuration management across Mechanical and Civil/Structural disciplines
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external organizations, including OEMs and component manufacturers and Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) vendors, to support refurbishment engineering activities
- Provide design oversight of vendor engineering deliverables to ensure compliance with technical, regulatory, and project requirements
- Support refurbishment engineering and project management teams during execution and unit restart phases
- Identify, assess, and resolve emergent design issues during planning and execution phases
- Participate in cross-functional teams to address complex technical and project challenges
- Review and evaluate engineering documents, ensuring quality, accuracy, and alignment with OPG standards
- Apply engineering governance, processes (e.g., Engineering Change Control), and industry best practices in all work activities
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil/ Structural, Nuclear, Electrical, Chemical or related discipline)
- Minimum of 5+ years of relevant design engineering experience, preferably in nuclear, utilities, or large-scale infrastructure projects (preference for mechanical and/or Civil/Structural or related discipline)
- Must have working knowledge of engineering change management and industry configuration management experience.
- Ability to solve problems related to aging management, containment and seismic activity is required for some roles.
- Applicable Nuclear Codes and Standards: N286-12, configuration management section (preferred).
- Knowledge of additional Codes and Standards are required for certain roles including: ASME iii Appendix 23 (pressure boundary), CSA C22.1, CSA N285, CSA N299.1/N299.2/N299.3/N299.4, CSA N287, N291 and N289
- Experience working with EPC vendors and multidisciplinary engineering teams is considered an asset
- Strong understanding of engineering design, project execution, and lifecycle support within regulated environments
- Proven problem-solving skills, with the ability to address complex and emergent technical issues
- Strong communication, organizational, and stakeholder management skills
- Knowledge of engineering governance and processes (e.g., ECC) is an asset
- Candidate must be a fully licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in the Province of Ontario, or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario.
