DIRECTOR, SUPPLY CHAIN - NEW NUCLEAR (Durham Region - Hybrid)

WHAT YOU'LL BRING 

  

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Science, Law, Finance, or a related field.  
  • Ten years of progressive experience in global supply chain management, procurement, strategic sourcing, commercial contacts, and vendor management.  
  • Supply Chain Management Professional Certificate (SCMP or MCIPS). 
  • Experience building and leading supply chain operations, emphasizing developing and executing strategy in a complex organization with over a billion+ spend. 
  • Experience working in/for/on behalf of the nuclear energy industry; strong understanding of nuclear components, processes, fuel, and technologies.  
  • Experience advising business stakeholders and executive leaders on strategic supply chain strategies, programs and understanding of global best practices. 
  • In-depth understanding of project delivery models and types of contracts such as Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) and Integrated Project Delivery (IDP) models, as well as contracts on large-scale and complex infrastructure projects.  
  • Experience and exposure negotiating large-scale multi-million-dollar commercial contracts. 
  • Strong business and financial acumen; extensive knowledge and understanding of business financials, budgets, legal concepts, commercial contracts, agreements and terms and conditions, competitive bidding laws, and Contract Law.  
  • Five years of management experience, effectively leading, including motivating a team of technical supply chain or engineering professionals and stakeholders internally and externally. Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.  
  • Requires critical thinking, strong analytical skills, and experience in creating and interpreting strategic vision and implementing it into operational models.  
  • Experience delivering transformational change, including modernization, digitization, and robust process improvement practices.  
  • Engaging presentation skills with strong verbal/written communication skills; ability to build strategic and impactful communications that resonate.  
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to practice empathy. Experience in building and maintaining productive relationships and partnerships across the business with various stakeholders. 
  • Results-oriented focus is essential, as is the ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment and manage multiple deliverables simultaneously.

ABOUT THE ROLE: Our business is growing, and as part of the clean energy transition, we are looking to hire a highly motivated and results-driven strategic supply chain leader.  

  

As part of OPG's Supply Chain team, reporting to the VP, Supply Chain New Nuclear, the Director, Supply Chain, New Nuclear Strategy plays a critical role in developing and executing supply chain and sourcing strategies by leading people, driving business change and transformation, while building, maintaining and leveraging strategic supplier and vendor relationships. This role is also responsible for obtaining new, diverse, innovative suppliers that enhance OPG's existing nuclear supplier programs and developing and creating strategic partnerships and alliances for the cost-benefit of our new nuclear initiatives.  

  

This Director position is a new role, and as such, will be responsible for building a team and leveraging existing ones to execute the strategy to support commercial and contracting needs and delivering supply services for OPG's new nuclear business.  

  

Through collaborating with internal customers and the external market, the key objectives in this role are developing, improving, and maintaining a capable, integrated and sustainable supply chain to support the needs across New Nuclear for the procurement of goods and services. This includes ensuring fair, accessible, open, competitive procurement and delivering the best value. 

  

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Program Management: Primary responsibilities in this role are to lead OPG's strategic supply chain management for our nuclear and new nuclear businesses—expertise in supply strategy development, strategic sourcing, procurement, change management and implementation. Work with the Supply Chain leadership team to support the execution of supply strategy and integrate all staff with functional processes to ensure governance and compliance to expand our supply chain services for new nuclear.  
  • Global Supply Chain Leadership: Provide leadership and strategic direction while developing and evaluating supply chain and purchasing process, procedures, projects, policies and initiatives.  
  • Contract Negotiations: Strong commercial experience, led negotiations for multi-million-dollar contracts with over multi-billion dollar spend to manage.  
  • Business Partnership: Partner with the business to identify and execute needs as a trusted supply chain business leader. Accountable for implementing supply strategies for the New Nuclear Business, providing solutions to support short- and long-term goals while ensuring timely delivery with the best cost, service, and quality to support business operations.  
  • Business Strategy: Leverage strong interpersonal and leadership skills to collaborate with colleagues on initiatives that advance OPG's overall business strategies and activities supporting employee engagement. Continue to develop a supply chain organization fully aligned with OPGs vision and commitments, ensuring it achieves its strategic goals, revenues, profitability targets and objectives.  
  • Financial Value & Controls: Accountable for building the vision and strategy for fiscal value and monetary controls to manage the complexity and risk of what OPG procures. This involved engagement with multiple stakeholders and managing significant budgets that impact business performance.  
  • Modernization, Process Optimization & Standardization: Ensure processes for supply services are optimized, standardized where appropriate and tailored, where applicable, to deliver the cost and service performance levels for goods and services for building and operating our new nuclear plant(s). Ensure the right information technology and tools are in place for the organization's needs and that technology benefits are valued and leveraged. 
  • Market Insights, Networks & Best Practices: Kept abreast, knowledge and understanding of the market and economic trends and commodity market outlook to reflect in strategy and risk management. Understand and analyze market, demand, and supplier trends. Identify opportunities to develop strategic initiatives to improve costs and performance in the market. Develop strong connections and networks in the supply chain and the energy industry while staying current on trends and best practices. 
  • Change Management: Lead and apply change management practices in building and transforming a supply chain organization in a fast-paced, highly complex and technical industry.  
  • Team Development & Management: Provide strategic direction, and build and lead a team of dedicated direct reports and an extended team of professionals and technical personnel engaged in OPG's supply chain management. Continuously building engagement and curiosity to develop core competencies and expertise on the team; to ensure we remain industry leaders.

Total Compensation Framework:  

  • Annual Base Salary: $160,000 - $180,000 CDN 
  • Variable Annual Performance Bonus: 20% target bonus, Stakeholder Return Plan (SRP) 
  • Vacation: 4 weeks vacation  
  • Benefits: OPG's Management Group; Health & Dental Benefits  
  • Retirement Saving: OPG's Management Group; Defined Benefit (DB) Pension Plan
