Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic professional to join our team in the role of Communications Officer at our Pickering Nuclear Generating Station.

Reporting to the Director, Corporate Communications, the Communications Officer assists in the design, development, implementation and maintenance of Corporate Affairs strategies, programs and policies, including internal communications programs, which support OPG’s business strategies.

  • Assist in the identification and implementation of Corporate Affairs strategies, processes and programs.
  • Help create and maintain relationships with identified internal and external stakeholders to support the achievement of business goals and strategies, including management and employee representatives.
  • Assist the Corporate Relations and Communications management team and senior staff by providing effective employee communications programs, services, advice and strategies to line management, including development of communication and change management strategies and plans for the development and rollout of their internal programs and materials.
  • Implement community relations and employee communications programs and solutions to address issues and impacts.
  • Provide advice to the Corporate Affairs management team and senior staff in implementing their part of the OPG corporate relations and communications strategies and programs.
  • Support Emergency Preparedness program by having a key role in internal or external communications activities.
  • Coordinate employee and public events at OPG locations or in the local community.
  • Assist in providing information to and coordinating spokesperson responses to employees, community stakeholders, and media.
  • Assist in monitoring the effectiveness of Corporate Affairs programs and strategies.
  • Coordinate and maintain the production of publications in all mediums.
  • Provide writing services for employee communications, community newsletters, media releases, brochures, web pages and spokesperson presentations, as well as other specialized writing projects such as speaking notes, proposal outlines, posters and video scripts as required.



  • 4 year University Degree in Journalism, Communications or Public Relations



  • 4+ years of experience working in internal or external communications;
  • Experience working in the nuclear or energy industry is an asset;
  • Internal employee website experience (experience with SharePoint is an asset);
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to prepare and present effective documentation, communications and presentations;
  • Ability to influence and communicate effectively across the company at all levels;
  • Experience with designing, writing and producing creative materials for posters, banners, videos and websites;
  • Experience writing for senior leadership;
  • Proven ability to meet tight deadlines;
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills;
  • A results-oriented focus is essential, as is the ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment and effectively manage several projects simultaneously;
  • Strong ability to think strategically, comprehend issues in a broad context and assess their long term implications;
  • Computer skills – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and data management.
