JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Assistant Project & Control Engineer/Officer

 

Reporting to the Manager of Project Controls, this position will focus on the financial and schedule oversight of multiple projects. The ideal candidate will have a background in cost management, analysis, schedule management, change control, and ensuring project reporting is aligned to the protocols and procedures established with the Pickering Refurbishment PMO framework.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Assist with coordinating, facilitating, and driving the Front-End Planning Process for projects.
  • Provide business units support in developing, maintaining, and updating project cost baselines and budgets in collaboration with project managers and finance teams. Perform cost management for projects in accordance with OPG’s project management governance. Facilitate and support project financial close out process.
  • Collaborate with project managers to address variances, adjusting project plans and budgets as needed to maintain financial control.
  • Set up applicable source systems (AS9, EcoSys, ePMX, P6 etc.) as required and ensure alignment with project control systems. Maintain alignment between source systems and project control systems throughout project life cycle.
  • Develop detailed schedules and/or provide schedule oversight activities to ensure full visibility on project timelines, establish baselines, and perform monitoring control.
  • Facilitate and support program reporting at all levels of the organization to internal stakeholders
  • Facilitate project metrics reporting and variance analysis. Identify actual and potential deviations from the approved annual, release or life cycle-budgets or schedules to the Project Manager. Prepare and obtain approval of applicable change control documentation.
  • Maintain document project file which provides an auditable trail throughout the project lifecycle including project approvals, change control and close out. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4 Year University Degree, with preference given to engineering, business, or finance.
  • A period of over 2 years and up to and including 4 years is considered necessary in project planning, scheduling, cost control, reconciliation processes, business analysis and/or reporting.
  • Working towards certifications including Project Management Profession (PMP) certificate, and/or Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering (AACE) certificate is considered an asset.
  • Clear understanding of project controls principles, theories, and concepts such as project scoping, risk management, estimating, budgeting, and scheduling.
  • Some experience with cost management software and similar tools for budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting. Proficiency in EcoSys is an asset. Understanding of earned value including CPI (cost performance indicator)
  • Knowledge and training of P6 is an asset. Understanding of earned value including SPI (Scheduled Performance Indicator).
  • Some Project Management experience within a Nuclear, Hydroelectric or Thermal generating facility within a project management support capacity.
  • Some experience with the application of work methods, resourcing of work, and logical sequencing of events and resolution of common problems in these areas.

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
