JOB OVERVIEW 
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for dynamic, strategic, and results-driven professional to join our Mechanical- Piping & Components Analysis team in the role of Senior Mechanical Engineer/Officer.

 

Reporting to the Manager, Engineering, this is an exciting opportunity to work in an environment where you will contribute to Ontario Power Generation’s continued growth and success in generating safe, clean, reliable low-cost power in a sustainable manner.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Perform component and support stress analysis using ABAQUS and/or ANSYS to comply with CSA Standards (i.e. N285 and N286), OPG Nuclear Standards and Procedures, ASME PVC, and CNSC requirements.  
  • Perform piping and feeder stress analysis using AUTOPIPE and ANSYS to comply with CSA Standards (i.e. N285 and N286), OPG Nuclear Standards and Procedures, ASME PVC, and CNSC requirements.
  • Prepare, review, verify and accept design reports including certification to CSA N285 and ASME PVC with Appendix XXIII qualifications including PEO registration.  
  • Working with ASME PVS Subsections NB, NC, ND and NF of Section III with both mandatory and non-mandatory appendices.
  • Perform class 1, 2, 3 and B31.1 piping stress analysis for dead-weight, thermal, seismic, waterhammer, dynamic analyses and fatigue evaluation.
  • Working with a multi-disciplined team of engineering and technical specialists to support the operation of various systems.
  • Developing and supporting the execution of projects in compliance with the industry’s demanding set of regulations and standards.
  • Other duties as required are specified by the Section Manager.

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. Master’s or PhD in Mechanical Engineering preferred
  • Experience and ability as a team player to understand and manage the interrelationships of various internal and external groups to facilitate objectives and ensure projects satisfy stakeholder requirements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and must be comfortable leading meetings and giving presentations.
  • Have experience in a fast-paced, challenging work environment where showing initiative and self-motivation are assets, with a proven track record on delivering results.
  • Sound knowledge of ASME PVC with emphasis on Subsections NB, NC, ND of section III with both mandatory and non-mandatory appendices, Section VIII and Criteria of Section III for Design Analysis.  
  • Experience with stress analysis of vessels, fuel bundles, and/or reactor structures
  • Experience with dynamic analysis (includes flow induced vibrations, seismic loads, impact loads, other time dependent loads, fluid-structure interaction, acoustic-structure coupling, random excitations).
  • Knowledge and experience in computer programming is required for engineering applications (i.e., Python, C++, C and/or Fortran).
  • Familiarity with mechanical analysis of pumps, motors, and generators would be an asset. Familiar with the Pipe-Flow program would be an asset.
  • Familiarity with PEO Guidelines on use of engineering software and CSA requirements for management and qualifications of analytical software (i.e., CSA N286 and N286.7) would be an asset.
  • Candidate must be a fully licensed engineer in the province of Ontario or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario.

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
