This position is moving to OPG Corporate Headquarters: In Summer 2025, OPG will officially welcome employees to our new Corporate Headquarters located at 1908 Colonel Sam Drive, Oshawa, Ontario. This new space will enable teamwork, collaboration and innovation that will help us to achieve our mission to electrify life in one generation. This position will be temporarily based in Toronto, ON until the move to Headquarters in the Summer of 2025.

 

JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Senior Manager, Treasury Credit & Market Risk Management.

Reporting to the Director of Financial Risk and Treasury Operations, the Senior Manager, Treasury Credit & Market Risk Management, will play a key role as a member of the Treasury team, while managing a team of financial risk management professionals. 

 

This role is responsible for measuring, monitoring, and managing OPG’s credit and/or market risks across Treasury, Energy Trading, and Supply Chain disciplines.  In addition, secondary support will be provided for Liquidity Management, Corporate and Project Specific Financing, and Treasury Operations as needed.

 

The Senior Manager, Treasury Credit & Market Risk Management, will work closely with OPG's internal stakeholders to quantify and manage financial risk measures (market, liquidity, and counterparty credit risk) and provide value-added advice from a risk management perspective.

 

This role will foster a collaborative work environment, to ensure appropriate succession planning and training and development opportunities, both within and adjacent to the team.

 

In the context of the rapid growth expected in the energy transition industry, this role will be crucial to ensure the Credit & Market Risk Management function has the necessary visibility into all risks, and to ensure that the organization remains apprised of important early warning financial risk indicators that could be impactful.

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Credit & Market Risk Management: To oversee the middle office functions for interest rate risk, counterparty credit risk, and foreign exchange risk, including energy trading, Treasury, fund management, and suppliers.  Middle office measures and manages risk, including assessment of risk, forecasting of risk, developing approaches to manage risks, and ongoing monitoring of risks.  This requires complex financial modeling and financial risk assessment.
  • Performance and Guarantees: Monitor and control OPG's Standby Letters of Credit, Guarantees or Performance Bonds, ensuring they are maintained and within pre-approved limits. Act as key subject matter expert with internal stakeholders for all LC / guarantee requests.
  • Financial Reporting: Coordinate the preparation of quarterly reports for financial reporting purposes that effectively and accurately reflect the credit and market risk management activities carried out in the reporting period.
  • Improve Business Systems & Processes: Work closely with the Company's various business unit leaders to strengthen the Company's Treasury function by implementing strategies to mitigate financial risk for the company and its business units. Maintain and exercise necessary controls, security, and prudent audit trails for activities and transactions executed by the credit & market risk team. Look for further opportunities to automate, simplify, and integrate into other processes or systems within OPG. 
  • Team Development & People Management: Provide strategic direction, develop, and supervise the credit and market risk team. Manage capacity and effectiveness of staff; continue to build team engagement, ensuring strong performance while promoting an environment of growth and curiosity for the team.
  • Other Duties as Required.

 

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business, or engineering with a Masters is preferred.
  • Professional designation (CFA, CPA/CA, or CTP) is considered an asset.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 10 years’ proven experience and track record in corporate finance, corporate treasury, project finance or corporate credit with an in-depth understanding of energy & capital markets, foreign currency/interest rate risk products, and counterparty credit risk.
  • Broad functional knowledge of operations, finance, and IT; broad exposure to North American power and financial markets; ability to apply fundamental computational finance methods to solve problems.
  • Strong judgment and ability to engage strategically, to play a key role in supporting management decision-making.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; experience in building and maintaining productive relationships and partnerships across the business with various stakeholders internally and externally.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, a strong drive and a high level of energy, commitment, and enthusiasm to take on complex and challenging situations.
