JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Mechanical Technician- Small Modular Reactor (SMR).
Reporting to the Director SMR Plant Maintenance, this position is responsible for protecting people, facilities, and operations by responding to emergency situations, supporting fire prevention programs, and ensuring radiation protection and contamination control standards are maintained. In this position, you will play a key role in maintaining and repairing critical plant equipment, supporting safe and reliable operations, leading maintenance activities, and providing technical expertise, training, and mentorship to support both day-to-day work and outage activities.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Respond to emergency situations, including fires, medical incidents, hazardous materials events, rescues, and workplace safety concerns, using specialized emergency response equipment.
- Perform radiation protection and contamination control activities, including decontamination procedures, equipment cleaning, and maintaining clean work environments.
- Manage fire prevention programs by issuing hot work permits, reviewing fire-related documentation, and supporting compliance with fire safety standards.
- Install, inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, repair, and overhaul mechanical equipment and systems used in generating stations and industrial facilities.
- Conduct precision maintenance activities, including equipment alignment, vibration analysis, balancing, testing, welding, fabrication, and component repair.
- Operate a variety of equipment and vehicles, including forklifts, cranes, trucks, precision tools, and specialized maintenance equipment.
- Plan and coordinate maintenance activities by preparing work orders, developing work instructions, maintaining records, writing procedures, and providing technical support for projects and daily operations.
- Support safe and reliable plant operations by training and mentoring technicians, monitoring contractor work, participating in outages and shift work, and promoting a strong health and safety culture.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Grade 12 diploma (or equivalent) and either two years of post-secondary education in a related field or a Certificate of Qualification in a skilled trade
- Preferred Trade Certification of Qualifications include:
- Industrial Mechanic Millwright (433A)
- Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic (313A)
- General Machinist (429A)
- Plumber (306A)
- Construction Millwright (426A)
- Valid Ontario Class G driver's license (or equivalent) with the ability to travel and operate vehicles to support operational requirements.
- Strong foundation in mechanical, technical, industrial, or related disciplines gained through education, apprenticeship, or trade certification.
- Commitment to meeting all job-related training, certification, and qualification requirements.
- Ability to work shifts including days, evenings, and nights.
