This position is moving to OPG Corporate Headquarters: In Summer 2025, OPG will officially welcome employees to our new Corporate Headquarters located at 1908 Colonel Sam Drive, Oshawa, Ontario. This new space will enable teamwork, collaboration and innovation that will help us to achieve our mission to electrify life in one generation. This position will be temporarily based in Pickering, ON until the move to Headquarters in the Summer of 2025. 

 

JOB OVERVIEW

 

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Manager, Projects based in Pickering, ON.

 

Reporting to the Senior Manager Projects, the Manager, Projects is responsible for supervising professional, technical, and project management staff engaged in delivering project supporting OPG’s Nuclear Sustainability Services (NSS) Division and infrastructure. This role will provide leadership in project management including design, cost schedule, quality, material control, and contract work. The Manager, Projects is responsible for optimization of project implementation. This individual will participate in strategic planning, budgeting, and training programs.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 
 

  • Supervise project management staff as assigned. Assign tasks and provide instructions as required. Check work of assigned staff to ensure good quality, accuracy, and productivity. 
  • Develop work methods. Make effective recommendations to the  Senior Manager regarding staff issues in specified areas such as training, transfer, promotion, selection, and discipline.
  • Conduct performance appraisal interviews and submit written appraisals to  Senior Manager for review/ approval, as required
  • Define project objectives, scope, estimates, schedules, work plans and all resource requirements, (including equipment and staffing). 
  • Coordinate and implement project technical work/solutions, and initiate the acquisition of appropriate approvals, as required in support of the operation and maintenance of the facilities:
  • Prepare documentation of the proposal, such as equipment specifications, engineering calculations, installation, testing, operating and maintenance procedures, and the like. Submit necessary documentation covering complete proposal for forwarding to responsible bodies for requirements of OPG, regulatory bodies, codes and standards, are implemented. 
  • Instruct staff through lectures, field training, operating procedures and the like, with regards to installation/implementation. In conjunction with other departments/divisions and organizations, arrange for/execute tests and provide appropriate documentation, as required. potential incorporation in terms of Department equipment or operation.
  • Maintain and/or update operating, and other specified Department procedures. 
  • Prepare or assist in the preparation of specifications, for purchasing requisitions for material, services, and equipment. As assigned, it is required to approve designated specifications. Follow-up with procurement contact and provide necessary project technical services during field installation. Prepare recommendations for spare parts requirements for existing and new equipment.
  • Recommend research and development programs required to improve equipment, system(s), or unit reliability or performance, chemical control, material performance, rates and the like. 
  • Participate in training programs to further own development and the development of staff (including junior) and others in terms of systems and equipment knowledge, including Department procedures related to same. Attend lectures, perform assignments, and write examinations. Prepare training material and provide lectures on specific topics, set, mark examinations and the like.
  • Contribute to the preparation of the Department's annual budget. Be required to provide cost estimates for new products and update costs of existing projects for input into Departmental budgets. Monitor actual project costs and investigate and explain variances. 

 

EDUCATION

 

  • University degree or equivalent experience in engineering, construction or manufacturing, or a related field.
  • Certification by the Project Management Institute (PMI) as a Project or Program Management Professional (PMP, PgMP) and/or demonstrated familiarity with the PMI Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK®) considered an asset

 
QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Previous experience in a Nuclear environment is an asset.
  • Project Management experience within a Nuclear, Hydroelectric or Thermal generating facility within a project management support capacity.
  • The ability to collaborate and communicate well, both verbally and written, is essential.
  • Ability to communicate verbally to effectively direct and motivate team and others, maintaining a persuasive and credible presentation style at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to present information clearly and effectively.
  • Experience delivering Construction Management services for major capital construction program/projects within the expected scope, quality, schedule, and budget is required
  • Ability to demonstrate and apply sound analytical and decision making skills in dealing with various contracts.
  • Excellent leadership, organization, planning, time management skills.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines with grace under pressure.
  • Excellent level of written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate to senior management and external stakeholders

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods. Maintaining a high-performance culture and excellence is a core expectation of every member of our leadership team and is rewarded through the established compensation framework.
