JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of an Environmental Advisor.
Reporting to the Darlington New Nuclear Project Section Manager Environment, this position is responsible to oversee and enhance the performance of OPG’s Environmental Management System by developing, coordinating, and supporting environmental programs, while providing expert guidance on compliance, legislative interpretation, issue resolution, and regulatory approvals. Foster effective relationships with regulatory agencies and ensure ongoing assessment and improvement of environmental performance and compliance.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Develop, implement, monitor, and improve environmental management systems and programs (e.g. Environmental monitoring programs, Waste Management, Contaminated Lands, Spills, Biodiversity, Emissions)
- Maintain and review environmental governance, policies, and documentation.
- Manage and report on EMS program compliance and performance during construction.
- Provide expertise and support for construction activities and future operations on environmental compliance, legislation, and regulatory approvals.
- Liaise and negotiate with regulatory agencies to secure permits, approvals, and licenses.
- Prepare, analyze, and interpret environmental compliance and performance reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Monitor and assess environmental performance using data, audits, self-assessments, and provide recommendations.
- Represent OPG on internal and external committees, support environmental training, stay current with environmental legislation and best practices.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 4 Year University Degree in Appropriate field of engineering or science.
- Requires 2+ years of relevant experience.
- Environmental Planning & Management Experience: Requires experience with environmental planning and approvals processes, particularly related to OPG’s environmental management system, programs, and strategies. Includes demonstrated ability in scoping, establishing, and managing environmental systems and study programs.
- Performance Improvement & Coordination: Requires experience in environmental management performance, including identifying and resolving issues, recommending improvements, and coordinating with Generating Units and Functions to establish metrics, develop targets, and address emerging environmental issues.
- Communication & Teamwork: Requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, with proven effectiveness in team or committee settings. Typically, 2–8 years of relevant experience is necessary to develop these competencies.
