JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Cloud Platform Operations Manager.

 

Reporting to the Senior Manager IT Services, this position is responsible to lead and manage all platform operations — including servers, data centers, cloud, backup and storage—by overseeing daily operations, change management, and escalations. Provide hands-on mentorship in key technologies (e.g., Windows Servers, Hyper V, VMware, Dell SAN, PowerMax, Linux Red Hat, Kubernetes), leveraging leadership and technical expertise to drive operational excellence and team development. Azure experience is a plus.


 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Manage and support groups responsible for managing servers and cloud platforms.
  • Ensure efficient operation and maintenance of servers, data centers, cloud environments, and backup storage.
  • Organize and actively participate in change management meetings to review and implement changes effectively.
  • Coordinate and resolve escalations related to platform operations to maintain service continuity.
  • Offer guidance and mentorship to team members in technologies such as Windows Servers, Hyper V, VMware, Dell SAN, PowerMax, Linux Red Hat, and Kubernetes.
  • Oversee cloud platform operations, leveraging Azure experience where applicable.
  • Apply leadership skills and experience to drive team performance, engagement, and professional development.
  • Utilize hands-on technical or architectural experience to address complex platform challenges and support team learning.
  • Support internal and external audits of governance, risk and controls.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field. (RA)
  • 7–10 years of overall IT infrastructure/platform experience with a minimum of 3 years in a leadership or management role
  • Strong expertise in technologies such as Hyper V, VMware, Dell SAN, Dell PowerMax, Linux Red Hat, and Kubernetes.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating change management processes and resolving operational escalations.
  • Experience with cloud platform operations, with Azure knowledge considered an asset.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in complex IT environments.
  • Strong communication and mentorship abilities to guide and develop technical teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience designing or architecting IT infrastructure solutions is a plus.
