JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of of Business Development Analyst, Electricity System Growth Planning.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Strategic Initiatives, this position is responsible for advancing strategy and planning for the build out of new generation assets. Working across OPG’s lines of business and with subsidiaries to support transmission planning, advance innovative business models that leverage new technologies, and to provide expertise and technical support in these areas, to other business units. The role will assess business opportunities from a range of perspectives and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, to advance initiatives; lead and/or carry out the direct preparation of studies, reports, and presentations; develop/maintain market intelligence to assist in the identification and development of current and future opportunities, including with reference to commercial opportunities.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Provide technical expertise in support of OPG's new generation growth and related transmission needs. This will involve understanding transmission feasibility through participation in IESO engagements and working with the IESO and Hydro One to undertake technical studies.
- Conduct and/or manage pre-feasibility and feasibility studies to evaluate project alternatives and prepare detailed business cases,and interpret financial models and business structures of projects.
- Evaluate the technical and general aspects of hydro, thermal, renewables and energy storage and other (as appropriate) power supply opportunities and projects.
- Keep abreast of advances and trends in the field of hydro, thermal and other renewable power developments, including technical, commercial, environmental issues and other elements as appropriate to assist in the understanding of current and future needs/opportunities for power development.
- Maintain/develop knowledge of current and potential power generation market including technical, business/commercial and customer developments, technologies or economic development through ongoing study, evaluation of published literature, contact with external firms, agencies and associations.
- Develop presentations for internal stakeholders, including Senior Management, and external stakeholders. Participation and/or support in delivery of internal/external presentations, as required.
- Undertake the organizing, coordinating and monitoring of all stages of project engineering for assigned projects or project packages from inception and approval to formal end-user acceptance, or until transfer to a dedicated project unit, as circumstances dictate.
- Provide coordination and assistance in the preparation of preliminary project studies and reports and in the preparation of submissions to senior management for project approval and the release of funds.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Math, Economics, Science or Business
- Minimum of 6 years relevant experience
- Requires understanding of the transmission system and system planning to assist in identifying and assessing development opportunities.
- Requires strong business acumen and analytical skills to analyze data on proposals and project opportunities.
- Requires a strong knowledge of English to communicate effectively with internal/external stakeholders, to prepare program proposals, write reports and/or present recommendations.
- Requires experience in transmission, business development, identification of financial, operational and technical issues associated with projects.
- Requires experience with project management, methods, techniques and concepts to effectively participate in project teams.
- Requires experience in project development and in identifying emerging business issues and opportunities.
- Requires excellent speaking, writing, listening and presentation skills.

This position is moving to OPG Corporate Headquarters: In Summer 2025, OPG will officially welcome employees to our new Corporate Headquarters located at 1908 Colonel Sam Drive, Oshawa, Ontario. This position will be temporarily based in Toronto, ON until the move to Headquarters in the Summer of 2025.

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
