JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Assistant Financial Analyst.
Reporting to the Finance Controller, this position is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data through monitoring, reconciliation, and analysis, preparing timely reports, supporting budget processes, and providing insights for management decision-making, while also enhancing operational efficiency, ensuring compliance, and supporting audits to contribute to the organization’s financial health and strategic objectives.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Provides management reports utilizing financial systems and other inputs. Performs ad-hoc financial analysis to respond to non-routine requests and queries.
- Reconciles accounts, resolves discrepancies, and ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial data.
- Analyzes operating, maintenance, administrative, and capital costs, and assists with the preparation and support of annual budgets.
- Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual period end journal entries and financial reporting for major projects, programs and accounts.
- Develops and maintains professional relationships with key stakeholders to facilitate operations, projects, and accurate forecasting.
- Supports internal and external audits by providing documentation and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
- Communicates financial results and insights while upholding data confidentiality and organizational policies.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 4-year university education in Business, Finance or Accounting and working towards or has completed their CPA, CFA or MBA designation.
- 2 years of relevant experience is required.
- Experience with financial analysis, controllership and financial systems (SAP, Asset Suite, SAP BPC, PowerBI) is considered an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Role requires knowledge in financial reporting and analysis is essential, including the ability to interpret financial statements and support period-end close processes.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills are necessary to effectively collaborate with key stakeholders and support both operational and project-related financial activities.
- Sound professional judgment and decision making, critical thinking, attention to detail and creative problem solving abilities.
- Experience and exposure from working in highly regulated industries such as utilities, energy, power, mining, or public sector is preferred.

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
