JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Analyst, Strategic Initiative.
Reporting to the Senior Manager- Strategic Initiatives, the Analyst will play a key role in assessing new business opportunities, partnerships, and projects, and preparing evaluations to determine strategic fit with OPG’s annual goals and long-term plans. The candidate will also work cross-functionally with other teams and business units on the management and administration of contracts and projects and to support the development and negotiation of commercial contracts.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Evaluation and risk analysis: Prepare business cases and financial evaluations for business development, growth opportunities, and financial partnerships
- Lead efforts to identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with business development opportunities by leveraging financial, legal, regulatory, commercial, and technical expertise.
- Support the development of business plans at both project and program levels, conduct SWOT analysis, and prepare Business Case Summaries for senior management.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Participate in cross-functional teams with other business units to develop and assess business opportunities.
- Contract and Project Management: Manage and administer contracts and projects, develop project schedules, timelines, division of responsibilities, and governance and accountability charts.
- Agreements and Negotiations: Assist with the writing and drafting agreements, such as non-disclosure agreements, letters of intent, memoranda of understanding, and support the negotiation of such agreements with counterparties.
- Support the development and negotiation of commercial contracts with both internal and external stakeholders.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Requires a 4-year university degree or equivalent degree in economics, finance, engineering, environmental science, business administration or law
- MBA degree is an asset
- Requires up to 5 years of relevant experience business development or strategic planning, financial modeling, business case and executive summary preparation, legal agreement preparation and review, contract or project management in corporate or utility environments
- Requires strong written and verbal communication skills to communicate effectively with all internal and external contacts associated with accomplishing work objectives.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
- Experience with project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Asana) and data analysis platforms is an asset
- Understanding of regulatory, legal, and commercial frameworks, especially in energy or infrastructure sectors is an asset

This position is moving to OPG Corporate Headquarters: In Summer 2025, OPG will officially welcome employees to our new Corporate Headquarters located at 1908 Colonel Sam Drive, Oshawa, Ontario. This position will be temporarily based in Toronto, ON until the move to Headquarters in the Summer of 2025.

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
