Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a professional to join our team in the role of Senior Plant Engineer based at our Sir Adam Beck Generating Station based out of Niagara, ON.


Reporting to the Plant Technical Support Manager, Plant Engineering Services, the Senior Plant Engineer will provide technical advice and guidance on a variety of technical matters within designated area of responsibility for thermal stations maintenance, operations, performance, design and commissioning.

  • Providing technical support and leadership to maintenance crews, and management.
  • Providing support in the development of capital plan and plant improvement projects.
  • Manage mechanical engineering assessments, studies, inspections, investigations, designs, and evaluations for turbine generators, boilers and auxiliary systems associated with hydroelectric and thermal generating.
  • Preparation of drawings, technical specifications and construction estimates.
  • End to end management of request for proposals (RFP) process.
  • Provide technical support in regards to hydroelectric and thermal station maintenance operations, performance, design and commissioning.
  • Collaborate with customers, stakeholders, consultants, contractors, and government agencies as required.
  • Respond to emergencies, conduct field investigations, prepare reports, and recommend actions.
  • Develop plans, standards and technical procedures for inspection, maintenance and asset life management programs.
  • Pre-start health and safety reviews, investigation of safety or technical incidents.


  • 4 year University Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Unrestricted Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) certification in good standing in the Province of Ontario is an asset


  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience as a Mechanical Engineer; demonstrate technical knowledge of hydro-electric generation;
  • Experience working in an industrial environment with rotating machinery, materials, welding, regulated pressure boundary and field trades support;
  • Experience working in an electricity generating facility is considered an asset;
  • Experience conducting assessments, testing, studies, inspections, investigations, design, evaluations, construction monitoring & maintenance of mechanical works associated with generating stations;
  • Experience participating in and leads root cause analysis for equipment issues.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills for the purposes of gathering and relaying information, resolving issues of concern, etc.
  • Good organizational and leadership skills, and to be a self-starter who can work both independently and in a team environment that is dedicated to engineering excellence and best practices;
  • High integrity, upholding company values including H&S, and protection of the environment;
  • Experience using AutoCAD and/or Solid Works is an asset;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the OH&S Act and Regulations, especially for Industrial Establishments (Ont Reg 851) & Construction (Ont Reg 213) and various codes and standards associated with mechanical engineering and application of their requirements.
  • Results and detail oriented individual;
  • Valid Ontario Drivers License in good standing;
  • Willingness to travel via road, airplane, float plane, helicopter etc. 25% of time;
  • High integrity, upholding company values including H&S, and protection of the environment;
