JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is seeking a results-driven and experienced Engineering Manager to lead and supervise an engineering team dedicated to the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of hydroelectric generating stations and associated facilities.
Reporting to the Senior Manager Engineering,the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in guiding technical teams, ensuring the highest standards of engineering practice, and supporting OPG’s commitment to operational excellence and dam safety.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Supervise and provide leadership to engineering teams engaged in data collection, assessments, studies, inspections, investigations, and design evaluations for hydroelectric generating stations and associated facilities.
- Oversee the provision of expert advice on maintenance, rehabilitation, design, and construction issues related to dams and other hydraulic structures.
- Plan, organize, and direct hydraulic field studies to gather critical data on hydraulic characteristics of rivers, reservoirs, and dam spillways, supporting safe and efficient plant operations.
- Lead the planning and execution of hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and studies in support of OPG’s operations and dam safety program.
- Represent OPG as a subject matter expert on various internal and external technical and professional committees.
- Review and approve the preparation, presentation, and implementation of procedures, instructions, project charters, business case summaries, plant condition assessments, and technical reports.
- Support the administration of work projects and provide coaching and mentorship to junior staff.
- Foster collaboration with Operations/Production, Water Management, and Dam Safety professionals to develop tools and practices that enhance water management across OPG facilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil and Water Resources Engineering (or related discipline); advanced graduate degree preferred.
- Minimum 12 years of progressive engineering experience in hydroelectric power generation, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Demonstrated expertise in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, dam safety assessments, and water management along with the experience in application regulatory and industry guidelines / standards for dam safety reviews.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and complex projects.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Candidate must be a fully licensed engineer in the province of Ontario, or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario.

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
