JOB OVERVIEW 


Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of  Finance Controller

 

Acting as the Controllership local representative, the Site/Unit Controller (“Controller”) is accountable for providing direct support to the site/unit senior management team and support the Director, Controllership and Finance Projects to advance the Senior Vice President, Chief Controller’s mandate to act as a partner to business units and corporate groups, providing effective value-added support for customer needs. This involves providing exceptional, timely strategic decision support, proactive analysis of opportunities and risks, and financial guidance and information to enable each business unit, and the company as a whole, to achieve its objectives. As a key member of the business unit senior management team, the Controller has a fiduciary responsibility to advocate fiscal responsibility and ensure effective internal controls over financial reporting.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Serve as a financial management and accounting advisor to site or unit leadership on all related matters.
  • Lead a high-performing Controllership team committed to continuous improvement by promoting best practices, supporting ongoing development, and identifying opportunities for enhanced efficiency within the finance function.
  • Promote fiscal responsibility and ensure the application of best practices in financial management, planning, and the establishment of operational performance metrics.
  • Oversee the financial reporting activities at the site or unit, ensuring accuracy, completeness, fairness of records, verification of asset existence, and disclosure of all identified financial obligations and risks.
  • Identify critical accounting matters, conduct alternative analyses, and recommend accounting options in collaboration with Corporate Finance as necessary.
  • Manage business planning and budgeting processes, working closely with site or unit leadership to align business plans with overall corporate strategies and vision.
  • Support line management in preparing and analyzing Business Case Summaries to inform investment decisions.
  • Act as the primary liaison between the business unit and other corporate finance functions, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Credit Risk, Taxation, and Planning, as needed.

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • University degree with a focus in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or internationally recognized CPA qualification in good standing (e.g., US CPA, CA/ACCA)
  • 8-10 years’ experience, with previous experience as a leader
  • Demonstrated success in managing accurate financial and operational reporting, including monthly and year-end closings and variance analysis
  • Proficient in financial risk assessment, development of internal controls, and serving as a primary contact during audits
  • Experience in designing and implementing financial policies, programs, and systems that support corporate objectives
  • Proven commitment to fiscal responsibility and the application of best practices in financial management and performance measurement
  • Background in business planning, forecasting, budgeting, and presenting strategic business plans to stakeholders
  • Leadership experience in managing a Controllership team, promoting best practices, and facilitating continuous improvement

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
