JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Radiation Protection & Safety Technician.
Reporting to the First Line Manager, Radiation Control, this position is responsible to on a shift or day basis, as required, provide technical expertise in the areas of health physics, radiation protection, and safety issues as they relate to the workplace, including workplace hazards. Interpret environmental and health and safety legislation, and health physics, radiation protection and conventional safety procedures as they affect the workplace.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Assist in the development and implementation of new testing procedures and methods for radiological and dosimetry analysis.
- Be accountable for health, safety and well being of self and others, in accordance with technical operating procedures and standards, as well as be responsible for all aspects of operating assigned equipment and systems. Perform basic maintenance on related equipment.
- Establish, maintain a reporting system to provide feedback for controlling work, materials, costs and other purposes as well as establish and maintain technical specifications for instruments, computer hardware and software. Order and install vendor-supplied software as required. Perform commissioning tests on new or repaired instruments, computer equipment and materials.
- Hold required regulatory licenses required to perform the duties and maintain specific Radiation Protection (RP) programs such as licensed source control. Carry out or participate in the development and implementation of programs related to RP and perform field inspections and surveys ensuring compliance with policies, practices and procedures. Carry out or participate in investigations of incidents/accidents.
- Perform industrial hygiene sampling and analysis, such as asbestos; ammonia; H2S detection; confined space checks; noise sampling; identify "buddy areas," microwaves; perform heat stress measurements; check dust fallout outside of the plant; SO2; breathing air; ozone; air quality; sewage system monitoring; etc.
- Provide technical expertise in areas of health physics, radiation protection, and conventional safety issues as they relate to the workplace, including hazards, and to the environment.

- High school plus three years study in a related field.

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
