JOB OVERVIEW

 

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Mechanical Technician.

Reporting to the Manager, Maintenance, this position is responsible for supporting Nuclear Sustainability Services- Western Maintenance. 

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

 

Responsibilities are consistent with training and experience in industrial and electrical generating utility specific equipment and systems. In accordance with prescribed safety procedures and regulations, performs all mechanical composite trade duties:

 

  • Install, commission, inspect, troubleshoot, service, maintain and overhaul all mechanical equipment and components associated with generating stations and facilities. Take appropriate preventative or corrective action.
  • Maintain and operate precision machines, test equipment and shop tools required to carry out work assignments, including the fabrication of components and the use of specialized tooling as per procedures.
  • Carry out equipment noise, balancing and vibration measurements for maintenance of stationary and rotating equipment, and testing of mechanical equipment to codes, standards and procedures.
  • Fabricate, assemble and repair metal components, including highest level of welding required.
  • Align machines using precision equipment such as dial indicators and laser-alignment tools.
  • Provide technical support, advice, coordination and assistance with regard to emerging work, projects and daily routines, including the development of technical/operational solutions to problems.
  • Plan, generate and review reports. Perform functions related to the work group, such as, work group communications, procedure writing and assessing.
  • Plans operating and shutdown work requests/work orders and preventive maintenance predefines. Convert existing work plans into detailed work instructions. Assemble all data and information for work related activities. Prepares various reports, maintenance history records, predefines and assists in the development of procedures and new tooling.
  • Accountable for the health, safety and well-being of self and others, as per established technical/ operating procedures and standards, and includes the development of technical/operating solutions to problems

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Minimum Grade 12 Diploma and Certification of Qualification (433A or 426A)
  • Minimum of 2 years’ related experience in mechanical maintenance or a similar industrial environment. 
  • Demonstrated experience with installation, maintenance, and overhaul of mechanical equipment in a utility or industrial setting. 
  • Proficiency in the use of precision measuring and alignment tools (e.g., dial indicators, laser alignment). 
  • Skilled in fabrication, assembly, and advanced welding techniques. 
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, codes, standards, and maintenance procedures. 
  • Strong commitment to safety and regulatory compliance. 
  • Effective communication skills and ability to generate technical reports and documentation.

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
