JOB OVERVIEW

 

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Human Resource Consultant based in Tiverton, ON.

 

Reporting to the Senior Manager, HR Business Partners, the HR Consultant will work closely with our clients to provide strategic HR solutions that align with their organizational goals. This role involves providing expertise in HR best practices, workforce planning, employee relations, and compliance to support client needs effectively.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES  

 

  • Provide guidance to management on the administration of the sick leave plan, including medical leave of absence, referral for LTD consideration, vocational rehabilitation, Worker's Compensation, etc. 
  • Provide advice, guidance and services in areas of; organizational structure, job evaluation, compensation, benefits and payroll administration, including related policies and procedures.
  • Access HR databases to report trends and emerging issues.  Gather statistics, complete studies, analyze and prepare reports on a variety of HR issues or procedures.  
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and best practices to influence human resources strategies and be a driving force to support HR’s Service Delivery Model.
  • Responsible for developing or providing management with advice and services, staff planning, placement, promotion, performance management issues.
  • Keep up to date on training activities and available programs.
  • Initiate, develop, and deliver training courses.
  • Develop for approval and carry out work plans for programs/processes in specialized areas.
  • Perform other duties as required.

 

EDUCATION

 

  • University Degree or Post Secondary Education in Human Resources
  • CHRL designation or Masters Degree in Human Resources is considered an asset

 
QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Experience as a HR Consultant, HR Advisor or HR Generalist.  Sound knowledge of human resources principles, and processes and ability to provide advice and operational support on a wide range of HR matters.
  • Labour/employee relations experience in a unionized environment will be an asset
  • Results orientated and the ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment while effectively managing and adapting to multiple changing priorities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to address and overcome current and future challenges.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, and strong facilitation, negotiation, influencing and presentation skill.
  • Commitment to high standards of procedural safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Valid Ontario Drivers License in good standing is necessary for this position; and
  • Willingness to travel locally between Durham region locations, as required.

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods. Maintaining a high-performance culture and excellence is a core expectation of every member of our leadership team and is rewarded through the established compensation framework.
