JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of (RA) insert job title.

 

Reporting to the Trades Management Supervisor, this position is responsible to install, maintain, and troubleshoot mechanical equipment and systems across welding, pipefitting, machining, and millwrighting, while ensuring all work is performed safely and to quality standards. The role includes non-destructive testing, project coordination, technical support, and the preparation of technical documentation for generating station equipment and facilities.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Operate and maintain precision machines, test equipment, and shop tools to complete work assignments, including the fabrication of components using specialized tooling.
  • Conduct equipment noise, balancing, and vibration measurements for both stationary and rotating equipment, and perform testing of mechanical equipment in accordance with ASME code standards and procedures.
  • Fabricate, assemble, and repair metal components, performing welding to the highest required standards.
  • Coordinate large projects related to the installation of new systems or the replacement of existing systems, including contract coordination, inspections, and quality assurance.
  • Align machines using precision equipment such as dial indicators and laser-alignment tools, and perform Work Protection Code (WPC) activities up to the level trained.
  • Provide technical support, advice, coordination, and assistance for emerging work, projects, and daily routines, including the development and modification of technical procedures, standards, and operational solutions.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documents, including mechanical and civil design sketches, drawings, bills of material, and reports, while ensuring compliance with health, safety, and operational standards

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Grade 12 or equivalent, plus a 2-year college diploma in a relevant field of study*.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Red Seal Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) 433A
  • Preference will be granted to those that possess one or more of the following skillsets:
    • Pressure boundary welding – vessel and piping repairs, fabrication, etc.
    • Machinist – precision machining with lathes, drilling, milling, grinding, etc
  • Skilled in reading and interpreting drawings, blueprints, and technical sketches.
  • Experience in preventative and corrective maintenance
  • Ability to travel weekly including overnight stays. 
  • Crane operating experience is an asset
  • Valid G Driver’s License in good standing
  • Experience with hydroelectric generators and related equipment is an asset.

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
