JOB OVERVIEW
OPG is looking for self-motivated, dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of General Tradesperson (Janitor).
This is an exciting opportunity to work in an environment where you will contribute to OPG’s public outreach, engagement, and education efforts as part of the company’s commitment to growing its social license.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Carry out regular janitorial and housekeeping tasks at OPG Generating Stations and Service Centers located in the Kenora and Ear Falls areas including cleaning lunchrooms, washrooms, offices, stairwells, hallways, floors, windows, mirrors, walls, ceilings, shelves and appliances. Tasks involve dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, polishing, laundering, wiping, scrubbing and washing.
- Work under other work groups work protection code (WPC) activities, up to the level trained, during regular maintenance activities, outages and overhauls to complete cleaning, sandblasting, rough grinding and painting as directed.
- Mix cleaning products and chemicals as per manufacturers recommended concentrations related to the janitorial and housekeeping tasks.
- Stock, replenish and transport janitorial products, materials and tools.
- Maintain and care-take facility grounds including snow-removal, salting and sanding in the winter and grass cutting, brushing and yard maintenance in the summer.
- Collect and transport garbage and recycling to waste collection facilities.
- Operate portable floor cleaning machines, industrial vacuums, portable, hand and power-driven tools and equipment as required to complete assigned tasks.
- Operate any vehicle or combination of vehicle and trailer up to the level trained.
- Ensure all doors, windows, gates, entrances and exits are secured and proper call in/out procedures are followed when working alone.
- Report any broken, damaged items or safety related issues to your supervisor.
- Perform water-regulating operations that involve removing and installing stoplogs and cleaning trash racks and booms.
- Assist in performing routine tasks involving inspecting, erecting, dismantling, reassembling, servicing, cleaning, moving, loading and unloading of tools and equipment.
- Accountable for the health, safety and well-being of self and others, in accordance with procedures and standards.
EDUCATION
- Grade 10, or equivalent
QUALIFICATIONS
- Janitorial or custodial experience, ideally in an industrial environment
- Class G Driver’s License and good driving record
- Ability to stand, twist, reach, bend, lift, climb, push, pull and walk for long periods of time including managing heavy, awkward tools and equipment in a safe and sustainable manner
- WHMIS is an asset
- Self-motivated person who is able to work alone or as a collaborative team player with the ability to follow schedules, manage time efficiently and keep commitments
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a positive, professional, and enthusiastic demeanor
