Ontario Power Generation Inc. (OPG) is looking for a skilled professional to join our team in the role of Electrical and Control Supervisor in Kenora, ON.

Reporting to the Trades Management Supervisor, the Electrical and Control Supervisor is responsible for supervising an electrical crew that carry out the installation, trouble shooting, assessing, inspecting, adjusting and repairs to a variety of electrical, electronic & control equipment, apparatus and instrumentation to the facilities’ systems as well as the calibration, monitoring and modifying of flow, pressure, temperature, level Instrumentation and data acquisition.


The Electrical and Control Supervisor is accountable for overseeing the inspection and maintenance work required on facilities’ high, medium and low voltage systems, distribution, controls and other equipment.  The ideal candidate would have hands-on experience as an electrician coupled with several years of prior supervisory / management experience of an Electrical crew.

  • Supervise activities of assigned staff, plan, organize and assign tasks giving adequate instruction, work procedures and provide necessary monitoring.
  • Prepare reports and retain appropriate documentation for audit/reference purposes.
  • Carry out good housekeeping, emergency response and fire prevention practices.
  • Accountable for health, safety and well being of self and others in accordance with technical/operating procedures and standards, and includes the development of technical/operating solutions to problems.
  • Supervise, lead, delegate and in some cases perform:
    • Preventative maintenance tasks and actively participate in the periodic teardown and internal inspection of major equipment and sub components.
    • Install, commission, inspect, troubleshoot, service, maintain and overhaul and assist with the design for all electrical/ electronic/control/protection/telecommunication or testing equipment, associated with generating stations and facilities. 
    • Prepare electrical, control, instrumentation, protection and telecommunication sketches, drawings, and bills of material.
    • Assist in the design of computer programs as required for the efficient operation of the station. 
    • Carry out a variety of measurements including testing of electrical equipment to recognized standards and procedures.
    • Determine generating system reliability and power system production. Maintain supplementary computer programs to facilitate analysis.
    • Provide technical support, advice, coordination and assistance with regard to emerging work, projects and daily routines, including the development of technical/operational solutions to problems.
  • Provide instrumentation & controls technical support in the areas of:
    • Condition assessment
    • Performance analysis
    • Equipment modifications and integration
    • Detailed design
    • Procurement of equipment
    • Commissioning of new equipment/systems



  • Completed 8000 hour electrical apprenticeship



To become an Electrical & Control Supervisor, the successful candidate must have the following:

  • A valid Red Seal Certificate, 309A or 442A.
  • Prior Industrial Maintenance Technician certification from the TSSA is considered an asset
  • At least 5 years of experience as an industrial electrician.  
  • At least 3 years prior experience in a supervisory, lead, foreman or management role leading a crew of journeymen
  • Strong commitment to Safety, Environmental Compliance, and Plant Reliability;
  • Proven organizational skills, high work standards, strong technical abilities and personal accountability;
  • Ability to maintain excellent records and documentation control;
  • Experience with reading and interpreting measuring tools, graphs, and technical manuals;
  • Strong computer skill in MS Word and Excel;
  • Experience in maintaining PLCs, industrial control networks and SCADA systems.
  • Flexibility to work shifts if required
  • Valid G class Driver’s License in good standing.
  • Ability to travel approximately 50% of the time
