JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Senior Plant Engineer/Officer (Electrical).
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Performance Engineering, this position is responsible for providing electrical engineering advice, assessments, inspections and designs for generators, power systems transformers, distribution, arc flash hazards, and protection and control associated with hydro generating stations and associated infrastructure.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Respond to emergencies, equipment failure, unsatisfactory equipment performance; conduct field investigations and recommend actions
- Provide technical direction, plans, and advice on a variety of technical matters related to hydro station maintenance, operations, performance, design, and commissioning
- Preparation of drawings, technical specifications, construction estimates, request for proposals, proposal evaluation and engineering contract management
- Pre-start health and safety reviews; investigate safety or technical incidents
QUALIFICATIONS
- 4 year Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (a focus on Power Engineering is preferred)
- Minimum 2 years experience in an industrial environment or generating facility with generators, PLC based control systems, high voltage equipment, protection and control systems, generator control systems (governor and exciters) and/or spillway gates
- Knowledge and/or experience conducting assessments, testing, studies, inspections, investigations, designing, evaluating, construction monitoring, and maintenance of electrical works associated with high voltage industrial installations
- Demonstrated knowledge of regulatory (reliability) standards applicable to electricity generation in the Province of Ontario
- Demonstrated knowledge of the OH&S Act & Regulations, especially for Industrial Establishments (Ont. Reg. 851) & Construction (Ont. Reg. 213) in Ontario & the Ontario Electrical Safety Code & various codes and standards associated with electrical engineeering and application of their requirements
- Ability to work in a team environment; strong interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively in English (written and verbally)
- Valid Ontario Drivers License in good standing and willingness to travel via road, airplane, float plane, helicopter, etc. 20% of the time
- Candidate must be a fully licensed engineer in the Province of Ontario, or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package.
